Unfortunately the weather is holding up progress (need to transport it when the snow lets up), but soem more pics of the interior:

In other news, I'm thinking about switching my site over from murtaya.com to mymurtaya.com for a few reasons. One, MSC can then use "murtaya.com" for their site, which I think would help them and make more sense (and I wouldn't have to redirect all the people who think I'm the one who sells and build Murtayas). Two, it'll be easier to swap over to the new site, which I already have up and running at the new URL:

http://www.mymurtaya.com

Mike,
We are more then glad to have the Murtaya at the shop. I have followed this car since I saw it on Jalopnik.com years ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to see one in person, let alone work on one. I love the body and interior progress. I hope to see the car for one last checkout and hopefully a photo shoot.

Please let the guys who did the body and interior work I am very interested in working with them with our personal car along with sending customers their way.

P.S. I was happy to have people come to Suba just to view a Murtaya in person.

Keep in Touch

I've given both the body and interior guys your compliments and desire to work with them in the future; I'm sure they'll be more than happy for any work you can send them.

I'm also looking forward to getting the car back in your hands soon...

I had to jump on the meme bandwagon:

In other news, the car got through the snow today and is back with the body guy to have a few more details finished up...

More progress...The interior is shaping up; I know it may not be to everybody's tastes, but I wanted to make something a bit rare and very driver-centric. Here is some of the gauge/button testing before adding the Murtaya emblem above the vent (and yes, one of the gauges is not set to the proper color yet):

In other news, the (only) other Murtaya in the U.S. is up for sale, if anybody is interested...

More updates. The plan is--whether anybody believes it or not (not sure even I do, to be honest)--that I will be picking it up at the end of the month...

Not the final steering wheel, but otherwise, everything else is pretty much done:

Is there a functional airbag in that steering wheel?

Functional as in will it go off if hooked up? Not sure. Functional as in is it hooked up? No--and in the final wheel it won't be hooked up either.

Default MCS is going under

In case it has not been acknowledged, MCS is going on the chopping block.

Maybe SubaPerformance should buy the carcass of Murtaya Sports Cars, Ltd. At least someone reputable would have the moulds and IP. It would be a damn shame to see it all lost.

That would be awesome, but I don't know if working on my car hasn't left a bad taste in their mouths when it comes to Murtayas...

Thanks for the pics Ryan--I added them to what should be the last update to my sites before I pickup the car in less than a week...

OK, so the plan was to go and pick it up, but we weren't completely comfortable with my taking it home. It needed some tuning and we're still waiting on some more parts to come in; Suba wanted to run it in some more with the new components and I'm all for that.

The body and interior were incredible--a big congrats and thank you to Steve Bruns and Steve Monaco for their respective jobs.

I also was reminded how small the car was--a lot of the standard Impreza components might be too big for the car, like the steering wheel, shifter (very tall), and seats. So, if anybody has any good advice on smaller versions of those components, feel free to speak up.

I did get a few images:

Thumbs up

I just spent the weekend test driving the car in preparation for delivery (finding out any last issues, etc.). After nearly seven years of wrestling with this, two days of driving the nearly-finished car made everything worth it.

The new steering wheel and short shifter completely changed the character of the car; everything felt like it was the right size for the car. The new exhaust also sounds a lot better.

It also got looks from everybody...After getting some parts from autozone (blindspot mirrors, fire extinguisher, etc....can't be too safe), I walked out of the store to a crowd gathering around it (including a woman who wanted to get pics of the car with me in it), and plenty of people kept asking me what the hell it was.

There are still a few issues to sort out, but even as is, I would have been happy taking it home. Just a few more weeks and it should be set...

So after seven years, I finally have the car. I've travelled 1000 miles and gone through a mile of altitude change with her and she's running strong and nearly to the point of being violent when you open her up. However, she does run lean every so often and will probably need a final tune when I get to my final location and altitude...

Here are pics from the 1000-mile journey home.
