Nobody bothers me with my smelly exhaust and relatively quiet Evo 2, not even the inspectors!

Not just the car you drive.

Someone living in Southie and driving a 20 year old Chevy will likely pay more than I do on my Lotus.

Easier than getting quotes all over the map is to go to an independent agent (like 80% of Massachusetts drivers do) and ask them to shop around for you. When you go to a 1 company agent, they won't look for the best rates for YOU. They look for the best commission for THEM.
I understand that. Those numbers I quoted were numbers given TO ME for my unique situation. Not numbers compared with someone else.

I used an independent agent for years. But as of right now LibMu offers me the best deal.

Default thanks

I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing their input and experiences with this issue. I have a better idea now of how I'm going to mod my car this coming spring.
Also met with Dent motorsports in Norwood, they're quite savvy and also very nice and approachable.

If anyone still has experiences to share regarding exhausts, feel free to post.

As far as I know, they're the only "Dent" Subaru specialists in the area.
But more to the point, they're great and fairly convenient for me.

My car has TurboXS catback exhaust. I've been turned away immediately by some, other places don't seem to even notice. They just want my $29.

I wouldn't put a TBE on without some sort of tune.
Also, IMO I don't think in the average daily driver you'd feel any difference in any mfg downpipe be it catted or not.

I would tune it the day it was put on just to make sure.

Anyone have any opinions on 02overrides?

I have a 2011 wrx with perrin equal length header, Grimm up pipe, 3 inch tsudo mid pipe bolted to stock muffler invidia catless down pipe with an electric cut out welded on it. Tuned on Access port with 2 maps one with cut out open and one with it closed. Used http://www.kseriesparts.com/cr/CLU1-CEL-ANG.html that for secondary o2 sensor no cel, no issue getting a inspection sticker, no cops bothering me for big pipes sticking out of rear of car, and rally car sound at the push of a button.

I'm in MA with no cats, not a problem. Mass "inspection" is nothing more than an OBD check and a shake down for $29 dollars. It's a joke. You can fail technically for having a puddle light or fog light out, but the only brake or suspension check is that the car doesn't sound awful, and doesn't roll through the back of the shop.

Most shops will even fail you at an exhaust being too loud and if they smell a catless setup they'll turn you away. Only way to get around having a catless setup usually involves knowing someone.

I have a catless on my 04 (bought it that way) and was all worried about an inspection. Brought it to a friend of a friend in Abington. Turns out it passed emissions and he informed me that I really shouldn't have mirror tint Threw him an extra $20 as a "tip" and was on my way.

Kinda like Robbie's solution but cheaper if you have a drill press or lathe, grab 2 17mm spark plug non foulers and drill the hole to .5". Been running 30k mi this way not an issue. On a GD, not sure if there's any clearance issues w this on gr's. Cheaper and don't have to pay shipping.

Also, I do not reccommend flashing a tune that your car is not set up for.
Also, do not flash your car right before you get to the inspection station, as your car will get a nice R sticker which you can bum around on for 60 days, which if you think about it could save you a few bucks each year haha.

Catless. JNA performance exhaust with a invidia v2 catless downpipe. When you buy the JNA exhaust is is a lot quieter than 2 months down the road. Its a little bit louder now than when i first bought it. I think its a great product and its not expensive as some other exhausts.

Here is a few pictures and a clip.

Hopefully this helps! its a cobb replica but it is NOT made by JNA. JNA just supplies it
