This is completely normal, no worries! It is even stated in the owner's manual somewhere.

I just got the Sport Limited, and wanted to know what kinda suggestions are out there for a bike rack system, Thule, Yakima, or Subaru's??

Also, what about the alloy rims wheel locks. Should I just get Subaru's or are there better ones out there?

Love my car so far too!
Thanks

On page 9 of the manual:

Noise from under the vehicle
NOTE
You may hear a noise from under the
vehicle approximately 5 hours after the
engine is turned off. However, this does
not indicate a malfunction. This noise
is caused by the operation of the fuel
evaporation leakage checking system
and the operation is normal. The noise
will stop after approximately 15 minutes.

Regarding wheel locks, I would just get Subaru's set (there are two sets available, one for alloys and one for steel wheels), they provide an ample amount of security for what you're protecting.

The Subaru wheel locks are identical to the after market ones. Only one manufacturer makes them. Part No B321SFG000 for use with Alloy Wheels. McGard is the manufacturers name. I'd check eBay for pricing to compare but they're identical.

Ha, the dealer stick on emblem is gone. So is the license plate frame.

I know. Same here.

As I said, I think that there are more than a handful of our complaints that can be fixed with ROM ver. 2.0

Yes it sucks to be the guinea pigs / beta testers for a completely new vehicle, but in the all, I still like the car very much. I drove some really neat twisties in the foothills around the Mojave Desert last week and the car felt really nice. It sort of made me want to double the horsepower... which I WILL NOT do. This is an economy car, damn it! An economy car! Sometime in the future I may add a couple millimeters to the rear anti-sway bar, though. Just to, you know... sharpen it up a touch.

Don't worry. It's part of the emissions control. It's actually explained in the manual somewhere.

Oh. Oops! Sorry!

They're low rolling resistance tires. Their primary function is to promote better fuel economy, most likely at the cost of traction.

Tires are always a compromise.

Not true. I bought the aftermarket ones and had to return them the next day because they were too long. They fit but looked bad as they stuck out an inch or so longer than the lug nuts. Just got get the alloy ones from Subaru. Yes, they are the same manufacturer (McGard). The ones from the dealership were $30 compared to aftermarket at $26.

I just picked up some Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner and Conditioner for my leather seats. Would it be too early to apply this to the seats?

With what part number did you get McGard ones too long? They make hundreds of wheel locks & you may have gotten the wrong ones. Most are for steel or aluminum wheels. The ones specifically for Alloy wheels are shorter. True, the savings really isn't much at all so why not go through Subaru, but the right ones from McGard ARE identical. Someone may have shipped you the wrong ones or you may have ordered the wrong ones.

http://www.mcgard.com/Applications/A...1MC%2bkg%3d%3d

@ Subieimp - you have to scroll down to the bottom for the alloy wheel locks. This is what they look like on the wheel.

I don't remember the part number since I returned them. I bought them at Pep Boys and they had two McGard M12 x 1.25, both too long, longer than the ones I picked up from Subaru. I was just saying to the person asking, save yourself time and go to a dealership and pick them up.

I also tested the center console noise. On a normal to firm close, I heard nothing. When I became aggressive, I heard the same noise, but at a faint level. On my Impreza, the noise was amplified even when on a normal close.

I will see what they do tomorrow. The dealer acknowledged my complaints so I hope there is a fix.
I wouldn't gauge quietness of a car based on whether you have to turn up the volume at faster speeds -- The radios on most trim levels of the Legacy/Outback have AVLC (automatic volume level control) which increases the volume as you drive faster. This could serve as a psychological trick to make you think a car is quieter than it is.

Bottom line is that metered tests of Impreza noise levels indicate it is better than average for an economy car. That said, consumer expectations vary, are relative to prior experiences, and don't always match reality.

No reason why shouldn't condition the leather that I can think of. As soon as I got the car, I detailed everything: 3m protection film; paint sealant; wax; Scotchgard carpeting; conditioned leather; 303 protectant; Rain-X glass; etc...

The car from the factory is ready for wax ASAP, unlike a car that just came out of the body shop. The factory has ovens to cure the paint, so it is hardened and ready for paint protectants, unlike the body shop where you'll have to wait 6 months for the paint to cure. I would imagine the same is true of the leather. I don't think it has much protection other than the standard chroming process before it is all cut and sewn together.

I want my car to smell factory fresh, so I put off cleaning/conditioning.

I am curious as well. I don't think the stock speakers are that bad, but I feel like the stock tweeters don't push out enough higher frequency sounds. The tweeters are on my list of things to buy.

Unfortunately it just doesn't smell the same. My '08 STI still has a bit of factory smell still left! I do like the way the leather smells in the new car.

Is there no stock tweeter in the location that is in the instructions? They don't tell you to remove the stock one!? I shined a flashlight in the grill and thought I saw a tweeter there already.

Thanks -- didn't realize how simple it was. I think unplugging the battery is a little overboard; just have to be careful with touching wiring and stuff. Not sure how sensative unplugging the battery is with Subies; newer VW's were a nightmare if you did that.
