Hyundai actually does use the ZF6HP26 in their 4.6l Genesis and their equus models... They are really good 6 speed units that get used in a lot of high end BMW/ Land rovers / Jaguars... They're Strong 6 speed transmissions.

I like the looks of the Veloster but I agree with the at least 220 HP.

The GTI is the most refined of hot hatches but underpower also IMHO and the new 250 HP Golf will be 30K which is CRAZY and why I will stay with the WRX/STi's.

201 - 220 is a 19 horsepower difference. Does it really matter that much?

Actually the mk6 gti is underrated from the factory. Most are putting about 200 at the wheels. The torques curve on the gti is long and flat and comes real early in the rpms. I never once felt the gti could use more power, in fact at times the torque was annoyance.

You sound like those dudes from back in the late 80's / early '90s who were bashing japanese cars as being rubbish.

Anything around 6 or 7 seconds will be just perfect for this car.

Fortunately the front bumper on the Veloster can probably be swapped off for a NA front bumper.

Do you mean the 2012 or 2013? I think the 2013 looks way better than the current one.

Is 6-7 in stock form "fast"?

The TV commercial says "trust us, it's fast"

JMO on the GTI, it's to slow to me(0-60,etc..) On the Golf R it's not worth the money especially since it runs the quarter in14.2 and cost like $35K, to bad Seats( Leon Cupra R) weren't sold in the US.

Yep. The whole front end is one big piece.
Airflow to the FMIC is an issue though.

FAst is relative to feel. Do not allow yourself to get sucked into being brainwashed into thinking you need to do 4.5 seconds to 60 to be fast. Fast is a marketing term at best. The old MG's and Triumphs and Datsun Roadsters of the time struggled to break 9 seconds getting to 60, but they were great fun to drive.

I would LOVE it if people started putting more of an emphasis on fun to drive, than in nurburgring times and magazine stats. CArs would get cheaper, mpg could go up, and in general people would be happier! But that is just my 38 years of experience talking.

I agree with you! 99% of the time everyone is driving their car to and from work or to the mall so needing a car with 9,000 horsepower isn't really necessary.

I'm looking at getting the Veloster Turbo because I think it looks cool, has a ton of gadgets, should be plenty quick and fun, runs on 87 octane, and gets good gas mileage, and it "should" be a pretty good price.

Only pricing I have seen is Autoblogs speculated prices.

The Hyundai guy on Twitter still tweets that "pricing will be announced just before its release this summer"

Hyundai needs to stop with the cat fish mouth grill. It's as bad as the mazda's front. It's not that hard to design a front end. Just look at what the aftermarket is doing in terms of front fascia's and put your own spin on it. Luckily, we have the aftermarket if they don't realize their mistake.

It is a 1.6 liter version of the GDI Turbo.

direct injection into the combustion chamber mitigates the need for high octane, since the fuel doesn't have to pass through the hot walls of the intake port in the head, where it can pre-detonate.

High octane just means it resists detonation more, not that there is more or less energy content in the fuel. It has to be used with carbureted or port fuel injected engines that run hotter, to prevent pre-detonation in the intake tract, or ignition too early in the compression stroke, which can cause damage to the engine. commonly referred to as "pinging" or "knocking." Knock sensors bolted directly to the engine listen to the acoustics of the engine to isolate that signature, and signal a dial back in ignition timing to prevent damage.

Lower octane gasoline actually requires less pressure or heat or spark strength to ignite. It burns more easily, which actually helps combust the full fuel charge, with less unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust. Injecting that fuel directly into the end of the compression stroke prevents pre-detonation merely by the time aspect of when the fuel is introduced, so higher octane tends not to be required. It can also meter the fuel delivery to more approximate a stratified, leaner burn, rather than all the fuel, at a richer mixture, being delivered before ignition starts.
