I did my 2011 WRX right after I got it. Went with blue to contrast with the red, I like it.

One thing to add. Before popping back in the console light (the one you wire the footwell kit into), I pulled off the little rubber "diffuser" from the console light. The light's still red, only now I can actually see it. I didn't even know there was a light in there until I was looking at the instructions for the footwell kit.

Can you post a pic of how it looks? Was contemplating adding the blue kit to my wrb sti but don't know how weird it would look with the red.

I just installed this kit today, red, to go with the red light in my 11 WRX. Snaking the wires was easy but took a bit of patience. It is tight in the dash. Removing the glove box helped. I did not remove the center console nor do I think you need to. I am happy with the results. I am also happy that they dim along with the other dash lights when you adjust the dial. The light looks cool and I kind of enjoy it while driving at night.

I tried, but you can only see the red dash lights. Footwell lights are not as bright and just get swallowed up by the floor mats. You can only see them reflecting off the pedals.

Anyone know if we can buy the STI type courtesy lights for a WRX? My '12 hatch came with the blue illumination kit and I'm not a huge fan of it. I don't need my shoes to be lit up while I'm driving, it's slightly distracting. Would much rather have the lights be courtesy lights instead.

I highly suggest it. Cheap easy install. I went with red and love that it matches the tach and all. I got the kit for I think $30-$35. So no complaints at all

I just did mine today, got a deep cut on my finger from the wiring due to my big hands. The passenger side is a lot dimmer than the driver side and I'm a bit disappointed by it. But otherwise everything's all good

Thanks for the write up by the way the pics helped me out with the wiring a lot

Did this last week in my '09 WRX hatch, thanks for the write up.

Didn't need to remove any of the front console/air vent or glove box. Hardest part was just maneuvering around to get the screws set and slowly + carefully running the wires. Found it easier to push the driver/passenger side connections up where you connect at the lower console. Once you have those spotted carefully pulling thru the back of the dash to connect them.

For the most part very easy to install. A non-ratcheting socket screwdriver worked better for me to hold the nut in place on the reverse.

OP thanks for the write up! I just finished my install and wanted to let everyone know what helped and not helped.

1. Installing the LEDs was pretty simple except for the fact Subaru sent me a defective bolt. (Threading wouldn't screw through the supplied kit nut.)

2. New to interior installs, so was afraid to start removing the radio trim. Found this video to help (http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t=PICT0001.mp4). Unfortunately, I couldn't find something to wedge in between the trim and dash.

3. I ended up using this video to remove the entire front trim (
). As I was closing in on the radio trim it became much harder to pop out, maybe since their is a tighter curve at this point. I was able to get some of my hand fully behind the trim and push outward instead of holding the top and bottom of the trim (afraid of snapping the piece, I'm sure I would have been fine either way). Toward the last few snaps the center console came out with the trim.

4. Once the front trim and air duct was removed popping the cubby light out and running the supplied kit wires was simple. (Not sure how people do this without removing the radio trim.)

5. Test your lights before reinstalling the radio trim.

6. In the end I did not have to remove the center console, there seemed to be enough space to work with.

Again, thank you for the great write up!

I got the cheapest underglow kit I could find from eBay. Total was $39 shipped from china. Wasn't expecting much.. To my surprise all the strips worked and they seem to be pretty decent quality. You can even cut them down to your desired length every 3rd set of LEDs.

And yes, I did install it....under my car. Paul Walker eat your heart out.

The car came with the blue illumination lights, and is there anyway I can just switch the bulbs to the red lights? The dealership said they would charge me $40...

The kit just under $40 including hardware, wire harness and LEDs. All you would have to do is unscrew your current LEDs, unplug the wire harness and switch out to the red LEDs. Maybe you could do a trade here on NASIOC if someone is looking for blue.

Seriously people why waste time online and cheap eBay crap. If you want the led strips go to auto store and pay 25 for 2 24 inch strips. If your a car guy your already gonna have extra wire and such. Really,I got mine at Autozone, paid 24.99 plus tax that's all I got into it and I got the max leds super bright and in red. And u can cut them to what ever length

eBay kit came with two 4ft strips and two 3ft strips. Also lights up 7 diff colors and does strobe, haha... I'm so gay.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that the LEDs are the ONLY part on my car that came from the ebays. Hell, its just for ****s and giggles anyway.

I thought that about mine at first too. But I think the light reflects off the pedals a little bit giving it the look that it's brighter. Just my .02

Default Installation on standard 2011 Impreza

Hi. My Impreza did not come with the any cubby lights installed. I'm guessing it's not standard with a regular 2011 Impreza. I purchased the illumination kit and attempted to install it. After I removed the radio trim, I was unable to locate the cable that would feed back to the car (the cable that should be there if i had a cubby light already installed) - this seem obvious.
Can someone please assist me in setting up my illumination kit and help set up the feed back to the car so that the light will come on when the head lamps are switched on?

I wired mi.e into my map light. What I wanted was to have them come on when I opened the door, unlocked it, ect and not the map lights. But still wanted to have the button option on the map light. If u want that route there's a separate plug on the map light assembly just in plug it trace the 2 wires down pass door pillar and tap into them behind the dash. Took longer that way but if I selly car I can always plug it back in and have factory setup and pull out the leds under the dash.

Also should add I didn't get factory lights for under dash. Got led strips they were cheaper and do same thing. Don't know if this will help just thought is throw out what I did
