The OpenPort 2.0 will work with your 2002 WRX.

Edit: Where "work" means read the ECU, write to the ECU, and log. Plus with an OP2.0 you can log directly to a flash card, which is key when you can't have a laptop loose in the car.

Define "will work" please. Specifically. Flash a JDM 2003 STi AH581? If not, it won't work

Thanks for the input,

Post updated to clarify that "work" includes everything you mentioned. Or to put it another way, if it works with the older OpenPort 1.3 cables, it will work with the OpenPort 2.0.

The JDM STi I can't speak of from experience, but I would bet money that it works. Again, if it works with the OP1.3, it'll work with the OP2.0.

Yes it will work. Go to Romraiders website. They list the supported ECU's. They also make the definitions for Ecuflash

I recently bought the busted finger motorsports cable. all 4 of my computers would not load the drivers for it. Something was wrong with the cable. I used ebays buyer protection to ship it back to BFM and they said I "tampered with it" and that the failed install was a "user error". I never once did either. I finally got my money back from them and wanted to give you guys a heads up that if they send out a bad cable they will not admit the cable was bad and will blame you.

With that being said I purchased a vag com cable for $11.49 shipped off of ebay to my door and it was here in 3 days.

I have a 2005 subaru baja turbo 5 speed.

I used FTDI drivers and it installed no problem. I am using ecu flash 1.32 and it works flawlessly. I pulled the stock map without any issues after finding the green test mode connectors buried high in the dash. The cable even has a blue led on it when you plug it into the obd2 port. Both romraider logger and ecu editor work as well.

Best 12 bucks I ever spent. Stay away from BFM. I can post the nasty emails here if you want to see them.

I've also buyed a $12 vag cable from DX.com: it's exactly the same (intenal & external) than the BFM one sold for $49.99 .

So you can have a $7(+little mod) cable that can read, flash & log your 02+ SUBARU (WRX, Forester ...)

With no mod, you can read, flash, log on 05+...

I also wanted to let you know I just bought a BFM cable and it appears to be bad hardware wise just like the post above. The windows operating system (win7 & XP) will not install the drivers. It can't recognize the hardware to match it to the drivers that BFM says will work let alone the actual FTDI drivers from the FTDI website. Its not a user related issue, I am very experienced with computers and embedded microprocessors and their related hardware which is the guts of the BFM cable. Hopefully posting these issues will save some people heart ache, money and hopefully get this issue resolved with BFM. I have nothing bad to say towards BFM as of yet, but we will see as the conversation begins about the bad hardware. I too will be hitting up ebay for a VAG COM cable as of now. Thanks for the heads, I just wish it was a little earlier like last week before I order the BFM

The vagcom cable I bought is this one. Has a blue led on it. Great deal, ftdi drivers work like they should. http://www.ebay.com/itm/310352597524...84.m1439.l2649

Wanted to post an update about the BFM cable. I had some friends in the electrical engineering department at my local university and we were able to read and determine the chip manufacturer with out taking the cable apart. It is using Win Chip Head, Chinese based company, usb chip for communication and not the common FTDI Taiwan chips used in everything else. I have a funny feeling BFM was supplying the FTDI drivers with the a cable that had a completely different chip manufacturer which requires different drivers which still do not work. I bought two different VAGCOM OBD2 cables off ebay with FTDI chips and both work right out of the box, its amazing what happens when you have legit silicon in there. Anyway I wanted to make people aware of the latest cables from BFM housing WinChipHead chips instead of the more common FTDI chips which have proven very reliable and trouble free. I would not recommend the BFM cable at this time due to the inability of the cable to communicate with RomRaider and other software with the supplied drivers from BFM and the correct Chinese drivers and this was tested on four different computers. It will be interesting to see how the conversation progresses when I place a call about this issue to BFM later this week. Now you are more informed and I hope I saved someone from some future frustration and heartache.

It's entirely possible that BFM didn't even know they were supplying a product with the wrong chip, counterfit/remarked/refurbished chips are a quickly growing issue right now.

Actually yes they should know because the cables has been modified inside by them then glued shut with CA glue to keep you out. The CA glue was obvious which is why I did not crack the case to check which chip I had after Windows threw a fit about the driver not containing any info for the hardware with the .inf driver. It is well documented that one needs to jumper some pins inside the module. So they should have been checking which chips have been supplied since they already had it open and they should have done a 2 second plug it into a configured machine and go ahhhhhh it found the device because it will show you what driver it is using. They also should not have glued the case shut because they are not fooling anyone by the way. I find it strange they are not forward about what drivers they are using because the drivers BFM supplied have been obviously renamed to not point to which brand it was, ie FTDI or whoever. It is also painfully obvious they are ftdi drivers due to the fact there other ftdi driver files in the BFM zipped driver download. If you even ope the bfmoportflash.inf the first 2 lines say:

FTDIPORT.INF
Copyright (c) 2000-2010 FTDI Ltd.

I initially did not mind paying someone alittle extra for a $11-15 VAG cable with some minor mods because I just don't have much free time to screw around with these things and I don't mind helping people who seem to have good feedback with their business. So when you are at the mark up he is with these chinese cables you better bet I expect you to check the chips when you are already inside modifying it especially when the lazy man can just do a quick plugin and realize it did not recognize and/or use the right drivers. Anyway I am getting off my soap box because the horse is dead. I hope this helps people and helps BFM realize an unfortunate mistake has happened and work with people to find a way to make it right. Oh and by the way Win Chip Head is a legit chip company but that dosen't mean it is a plug in play replacement to FTDI. The fact is that no one bothered to just take 2 seconds to check visually or functionally then glues the case shut so you can't visually confirm what you payed for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO SIR I DON'T LIKE THAT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate BFM because of the way they treated me. Check out this email from them after I told them that the cable they sent me was faulty. It's all my fault, it could not possibly be a bad cable..... :-/ Please do not buy from these clowns.

Sean,

Insults won't get you far, cable is a generic case and chipset that we modify on site. Drivers are FTDI because that is the drivers that seem to function best with our cables and the versions of ECUflash we provide. The main reason they are re-named is to more easily point them out, if you will notice we have different variations of software packages on our forums for the cables. In the later packages we didn't even bother to rename the files, and opted to use video and screencaps to aid in the installation process.

The problem your having isn't typical, it frankly seems like a user error during the installation process. If you have Windows XP your install should basically go exactly as it does in the install video guide located on our forums.

Return for a refund if you wish, 1862 Big Ridge Rd Clintwood, VA 24228 please let us know when you are shipping the item back so we can watch for it. Once we have it in our possession we will issue the refund for you.

Once I left them appropriate feedback I got this email.

busted_finger_motorsports is requesting that you revise the original Feedback you left for BFM Subaru Impreza WRX STI Legacy Tactrix 1.3 OBD2 Flash Cable ECU Tuner CHIP (280824058837).
Reason for request: Other
Message from the seller: Un-necessary slandering, un-professional and un-becoming of a decent customer. You came to me with concerns, had a poor outlook and it ended poorly as i predicted. It is not my fault your own narrow views got in the way, but spreading lies isn't needed.

You miss my point entirely. The chip may be visually identical to the correct chip to the naked eye, but in reality be a blacktopped IC from god knows where. Low margin, ebay vendors selling knockoffs are very vulnerable to this. This kind of counterfit items are a huge problem in the IC industry right now.

No I did not miss your point, I am heavily into the world of microcontrollers and I am well aware of fraudulent silicon. I noted the maker of the chip which is a reputable company

That facts are:
1. I figured out what the chip was manufacture wise, which I could have
done in a much easier way if some jack@ss did not glue it shut with CA
glue!
2. The manufacture, Win Chip Head is a legit company. They don't make
clones and relabel as other manufacturers.
3. BFM supplied drivers for FTDI chips not WinChipHead which was the
actual hardware if someone actually bothered to look when the case
was open.
4. No one obviously took the whole 5 seconds it takes to test the hardware
on a configured computer to see if the computer recognizes the usb chip
and communicated with it using the correct the driver.

Windows is really good about telling you if it recognizes the hardware and what driver it is currently using to communicate with it. If you only install that one specific driver and turn off auto install for devices you will quickly know well under 5 seconds if your hardware is working. If not, further investigate. But that should have been done again like I said when you had the hood off of this thing where it takes you a whole two seconds to visually see the WCH or the FTDI logo on the chip. Hmmmmmmmmmmm what next??????????????
