After having my car at the shop for 2 weeks, my issue wasn't resolved. My secondary tugboat does not want to spoil, but my primary will spool all the way through 7000+ rpms. I also think I have an exhaust leak on my primary. It makes a crazy squealing sound with high boost and I'm pretty sure I've seen smoke coming out from between the downpipe and turbo housing. In heading to the hobby shop in a few. If you gets are there, come by and toss some ideas my way.

What's going on? I may be headed your way in a few months. I have my option of Lejeune or Okinawa. I can't begin to explain how much I hate Jacksonville and I've never been to Japan. My minds not made up yet. Any of you mind throwing out some pros and cons about the island? I'm coming from Bahrain, so I'm familiar with the ridiculous humidity. Also, is taking my car an option? If so, do you recommend it? Thanks in advance...

The island has tons to do, specially if you like to be outdoors. This is an opportunity to come to Japan on Uncle Sam's dime.

i think you can bring your car but you have to pay for it. it depends on what year and model you that you are trying to bring. i have seen a stateside 04 STI out here on Okinawa. it was long ago. so it is possible to bring your car. I wouldn't! bring it.

options:
you can sell it and get something much nicer over here.

you can keep it back in the states and get a loan for something nicer

when you do come here. get with one of us, you don't want to buy a car on Okinawa. buy one on www.goo-net.com.. they have an english tab at the top right. you can get cars cheaper there than what you would pay for on Okinawa.

yeah, you can still get what you want. just have to wait until your 120 hold until you sell your car again is up.

the best way to get the cheapest car in Japan is not thru Goo net. Their prices are amazing expensive to the core.

Go for auction. You'll get a better price from there rather than goo net. Only problem is you have to take care of registration, shaken, parking license but its all easy.. keep note of cars that have a A/B grade. And you can just send them in for shaken just as they were and you will not have a problem passing them.

"you can get cars cheaper there than what you would pay for on Okinawa."

two friends of mine own 2005 STI Spec C WRB. one of them bought his car down here on Okinawa where another friend bought his off of Goo-net. the one on Okinawa was $22K, the other paid $16K off of goo-net. the same extact model car. i have seen some other 05 STI Spec C for way cheaper price off of goo-net.

the one on the right is the $22K

this one that was on the left is at his home... his was $16K

if there are other sites out there were you can find cars cheaper... please post it.. i have been looking at goo-net and tradecarview for years and years now. if there is a new site.. i am interested to see it.

Hello. Check out auctions. They start bids at 15man for the STi. Usually ends at 80man or the max 130man that i've seen. + Shaken and insurance 8man++. You wouldnt pay more than 140man inclusive of shaken.
I paid 90man for mine.

if you want to convert the dollar to yen. i think he spent 1,200,000 yen during that yen rate in Feb or Mar.

plus, i have been checking out YAJ(yahoo auctions japan) for years. and many times they find out that you are a gajin, they don't really want to deal with you due to language barrier.

as i asked in my last post, i am sure there are other websites.. please link them so i can look at them.

No. auctions are live auctions that you require a company to auction on your behalf. not yahoo auctions. Maybe japanusedcars has the auction sheets.

for example, http://r-international.co.jp

u can sign up free and check the auction sheets. they start at 10man, 20man etc.

Hi all,

I've been on island for a while now. I put an aftermarket downpipe into my 02 WRX, since then she's been a bit sluggish and makes a putt-putt noise while stopped or in neutral. My turbo timer also quit measuring my boost. Anyone have any ideas or think they could help? I don't know if any of the local shops could understand me.

Thanks!

Also, is there a Subie club out here? There definitely should be.
