The needle doesn't light up white? I noticed mine is only about half lit up. Most pictures of OEM boost gauges look like this but I've seen a couple that look like they light up the needle fully.

I had the dealer replace my flickering light 4K miles and 9 months ago. It just started to fail again this week. Back to the dealer it goes...

I just replaced my bulb from a bright as heck red LED to a nice, white LED that was in my RS. Looks like a completely stock LED bulb.

FYI, the LED bulb that comes in the SPT gauge is about $57 and looks exactly the same as a cheapy, white LED 194 bulb.

Swap it yourself, it really is that simple. I'm slow when it comes to "mechanical" stuff and even I think it's easy. Don't waste your time taking your car to the dealer unless you already work there or hangout there all the time like I tend to do anyways.

Let me know if that Defi dims okay. It should be fine, but I want to know from a reliable source. Eff the internets!

Except for the walkthrough from climbhigh09. At those moments, the internets be cool.

I've done engine swaps before, so a bulb is a piece of cake. However, since this is a factory part and included under the warranty, I'm going to have the dealer fix it on principal.

That's so boss.

I was the same way the first 2 warranty replacements, but this last one I was just thinking, "This is RIDICULOUS."

I didn't realize that I posted here before! My gauge went out today. I'm assuming the replacement LED thing works well?

Do they just have a really crappy one in there from the factory?

Picked up my new 2011 STi on Friday, lights out on Saturday. Only 500 miles on the car...
Any news on the new SPT gauge coming out?

Which new one? Is there a different part number for the 2012 SPT boost gauge? I checked with the Part Dept at my local dealer and the 2010 part number has been replaced by the 2011 part number which I thought was continuing on to 2012.

The back light is crap AND expensive, so don't bother replacing it directly since it'll just go out again. Go to your local auto store (or Fred Meyer's or whatever) and just get a 194 LED of your own. Easy as heck to replace yourself.

HOWEVER, if this is your first time having the issue I would recommend getting it swapped under warranty so that Subaru has a track record of these things going out. Help out the community!

Thanks!

They replaced my bulb under warranty yesterday. Next time it goes out, at least they'll know to order the bulb right away and it will be a five minute job over lunch, versus bringing it in and having them "troubleshoot".

How can a gauge be noisy? I've never heard of that. Electrical hum or something?

Took 2 trips to the dealer to fix the damn light!

Yes, they knew days ahead of time the gauge light was flickering and had a spare gauge set in stock. After bringing it in, they wouldn't take the bulb out of the in-stock gauge and it in mine. Instead, it had to be ordered as warranty replacement attached to my VIN -- something they claim which couldn't be preordered until they witnessed the problem. Really? over a $5 light?

That was last week. Today, took it back in, waited around for 1hr for it to get replaced. Let the 6 month countdown until the next failure begin.

The stock light is NOT $5. I saw their cost for it, it's ridiculous.

Don't countdown, just replace it yourself, silly person.

I am installing my SPT boost guage tomorrow. I am not even going to bother with the stock bulb, warranty or not. The $5 I dropped on an aftermarket LED bulb will pay for itself in the gas I'd spend driving to the dealer to get the stock bulb replaced after it burns out.

It depends on the bulb. The first one I swapped with hardly lit up at all. The second one was entirely too bright. This last one is fine, but not quite as balanced lighting as the stock bulb. The stock bulb is a multi-directional LED, I believe, while my current one is a uni-directional bulb.

I'm guessing there's still an issue with these gauges? What is the stock # on the newer gauges?

Replacing the bulb seems to do the trick. HOWEVER, I am on my second replacement since getting my 2010 in February. The bulb just started flickering this evening. I will be on bulb 3 tomorrow morning when I swap it for a new one. Is there a fix for this or am I just buying crappy bulbs? Should I be buying a different brand or taking it to the dealer for the sake of record keeping? I have seen posts of over a year ago saying a replacement will be out in March. Is that March 2011 or March 2012? Ugh, this is annoying. It's not a lot of money but it will add up if I have to spend $5 every 6 weeks. I'd gladly spend $50 if I never had to replace this piece of **** ever again!

The "new" gauge that was expected to be a March release was released March 2011 as a replacement over the previous model from 2010 and before. That one released on March of 2011 is the same one still being used today. I confirmed with my local dealer's parts department the part number the last time I scheduled another warranty fix that they were using the most current part number.

Are you using an LED 194 bulb or a halogen 194 bulb? I haven't had any problems with my 194 LED bulb, but it would be nice to have a bulb that spreads light more evenly (like a multi-faced 194 LED bulb).

Im using LED. I only went to Pepboys and picked up a 2 pack for $10. Could I be buying a crappy brand? Tips, pointers?
