Hey guys and gals,
I moved to Anchorage last August, from Idaho, and have been stalking the Alaskan NASIOC section for a while now. It's great to see a strong schedule for this coming season in AK. Although I don't yet have an "autocrossable" car (truck), I would really like to start getting involved with the sport. Please let me know if you could use an extra volunteer at the events at any point. I plan on being ready to compete in the 2013 season. But as previously stated, would like to start getting involved asap. -Corey

Corey,
You should come to the tech inspection event at the Nissan dealership on the 20th. It is a more relaxed atmosphere. Get to know some of these screen names by face. |

We could really use somebody to learn registration and timing. Also course design as well. Does any of that pique your interest?
Thanks for volunteering! |

I've been itching to submit some course designs and get in the instructor's seat for a while now.

haha. considering I only started instructing last year, whats that say about previous years?
![]() though usually people I'm trying to beat, I don't ride with them. what others do doesn't always work. I like riding with new people. fresh perspective and open minds by all. |

I'll just say that a motorcyclist's perspective for a road course will put things into proper perspective for the established caged road guys REAL DAMN fast.

I'll try to make the tech inspection on the 20th, if I'm in town. we'll discuss any or all of these options then! Thanks for all the responses.

bjcarter has good advise
can't count how many times I've heard "I don't want to go cause you're all going to be faster then me." or "you have experience and I don't." or "I don't want to look stupid and go off course or hit cones." Only by going and having fun, taking advise will you learn. |

Pfft...I've never done this!!!
![]() This is where the "challenge yourself" part comes in. Don't go in with the attitude you have to beat someone because there is only one person to beat and that person is you. Challenge yourself to not become angry or upset when you kill cones or get an OC. Challenge yourself to stay calm and focused despite what happened in your previous run. Challenge yourself to improve with experience and the experience of others. There isn't a person out there that hasn't been in yours or my shoes and has not had a time where they've taken out cones or had an OC. I see the top competitors do it all they time. Sometimes worse things happen too as I and many others witnessed last season and seasons past. No one is immune. Having fun, learning and the occasional goading and gloating is what it's all about. |

People who come out thinking they need to impress everyone with their mad skills are the ones going home frustrated and disapointed. The excuse "my car isn't prepped yet" is stale. I'm sorry but I've seen low budget or stock cars (not GTR) that kick some ass out there.
let me tell ya about your skills slick. they mean jack **** lol and bjcarter... I think we had a party when you got that first on course time for the whole day. Might have been your last run of the day to haha. Most people would have thrown in the towel but you stuck with it and now your a top contender. ![]() |

...I had a party that day. Six runs with five OCs. That day was motivation for me. If you try too hard, that's what happens. Start slow and build up speed. As far as me being a top contender, maybe one day. I just don't see it in myself yet -- I have a ways to go to be classed with some of the drivers out there. Nonetheless, Thank you for the vote of confidence. I hope to improve upon last years progress and show better consistency this year -- minus the OCs. ![]() |

Just come out and have fun! For years and years I've been chasing Jake and have only succeeded at beating him a few times.
The friends I've made are worth more than any foolish trophies or points. |

Krint, you may have been chasing me for years, but now it feel like I'm chasing you! Ha! Actually there are a lot o' people I gotta chase now.
And for the noobs out there, I was a noob, too. I look at some vids of my early years and shake my head at the train wreck I call a run. It's early April and I'm needing my autocross fix! April 22nd isn't soon enough. |
