Default Future suby owner looking for help/opinions between choices.

Hi. This is my first post here and look forward to being an active member of this community. I am in the market for a subaru and I am stuck between 3 choices.

08 Legacy GT 5speed manual w/ 39k miles at $20k.
- I like the luxurious feel it gives off while being sporty at the same time. To my understanding it has the same motor and tranny as the wrx and I may be wrong but it has the SI Drive which I am assuming its has the LSD of an STI only cause the sti also sports the SI Drive feature?

08 Wrx hatch w/13kmiles at $23k.
- Now the only reason why I am considering this car over the legacy cause I like the color better lol. Also cause of the fact it has a lower mileage. knowing the wrx its pretty much standard everything no si drive.. and not even sure it has lsd.

08 wrx sti hatch w/55k miles at $25k
- Now of course the sti and Im pretty sure to most of you this is a no brainer and I should get this one. But I am skeptical about getting it because of how many miles it already has. To be honest I do want this one the most of all the three.

Now with that said. Other than installing suspensions and lowering the car first ( I just hate stock height lol) I plan to upgrade the air filter, and pretty much put cobb stage 2 kit with it( unless of course anyone can recommend something better and cheaper) I just dont want to do it on a car with 50k and have it take a **** on me. Im not sure which one to go for as far as reliability with the mods taken into consideration and the current condition of the car.

I drive about 80 miles total back and to work 4-5 days a week over the highway. And i make a minimum of about 33k a year. so the price difference between the three is not too much of a deal. Look forward to hearing you guys have to say. Thanks.

A lot of people will say 55k isn't that many miles, since people buy STis all the time with over 100k and do what you're talking about.
Personally, I wouldn't want a STi with that many miles, and I would go with the WRX. The Legacys are nice, but they don't make as many things for them as they do the Imprezas, and I don't like the exteriors as much. Just me though.

Is there anything thing I have to look out for when buying a subaru just to make sure Im not getting shafted. Like the mechanical aspects of things? Im not to big on looks and prefer the feel of driving a vehicle then the looks of it. As far as parts go for the legacy over the imprezas to my understanding the legacy gt shares the same motor as the wrx?

if you're just going to be running stage 2, go with the wrx. it has less miles and with the $2k you can get an sti turbo and intercooler and have money left over. I know in 06 the wrx and sti had the same injectors and fuel pump so i'm assuming those wont need to be upgraded. you'll essentially have the power of the sti for about a grand less with 40k less miles

well said. ^ the only aspect I like on the sti over the wrx other than the looks is the 6 speed tranny. Ima be test driving both the legacy and the wrx tomorrow and depending what kinda rates i can get for the sti it is still a consideration.

I'd go in order - STi, LGT, and WRX. The only thing the WRX has going for it is low mileage.

get the LGT. Aftermarket may not be as expansive as impreza, but is still excellent and has slightly more room in the backseat.

I would be reluctant to go for 2008 WRX as 2009 WRX is much better (different turbo and suspension set up), so STI might be the better option...

Dont get that wrx the 2009 has a better turbo and comes with more Hp. A 2009 stage 2 wrx will be very close with the 2008 stage 2 sti. The 2009 wrx also comes with a better transmision then the 2008 and suspension(i know your changing it lol). With all of this in mind i would get the 08 STi or look for an 09+ WRX

ok thanks for the input guys. Im prolonging the purchase till middle of next month at the latest. In the mean time ima keep an eye out. I see some great deals on 09+ wrx but ima have to take a 3-4 hour drive out there. :/ I like the LGT also but im not feeling that atlantic blue color. Theres also a 09 wrx hatch in the area that is actually cheaper. I prefer the sedan tbh but they seem to be more limited.

just a thought, for 25k, why not get a 2012 wrx with 0 miles? You could easily get a base WRX under or around invoice. I considered getting a used one, but that fact that they hold their value so well, didn't make sense for me to spend 3-4k less for a 3-4 year-old WRX. Just my 2 cents. I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decide to get.
