Default A Head Gasket Sealant by Subaru?

Have a Subaru with a bad head gasket, and not a lot of money or time. My father in law said that he found out about some head gasket sealant that is put out by Subaru. I find this very hard to believe. Maybe there is one they recommend...I would guess blue devil if that is the case. But as usual, he doesn't know a lot about it being that he heard it from a friend, a reliable friend, but still second hand. The problem I have is that they are not open today so I can't go there asking questions about it.

So, do they have one? Or was my father in law mistaken?

Yes they have it It is in a blue bottle called Subaru coolant conditioner, but if the headgasket is already gone, it is a waste of money. It is more of a preventive measure.

I would not put that in your cooling system if I were you. If a problem exists you might as well fix it the right way, putting in that conditioner is only going to do more bad then good.

The Subaru coolant conditioner is ok to use in your coolant system as it is required by Subaru. However, it will not address a blown headgasket or one leaking oil.

some head gasket sealants DO work, but are never a permanent repair. Its more of a stopgap to allow you to enough time to trade the car in to a dealer for a new one... (I have no problem trading in a $1000 car with a blown head gasket to a dealer, but I'd never sell one like that outright to an individual without disclosing it.)

I'm a former Honda dealer mechanic before working my way to becoming a UPS diesel semi mech. We used block sealer as a last resort a few times at the dealer. It was for unfortunate customers who couldn't afford a proper repair on low value cars. Surprisingly, it worked. if you don't drain the coolant and use water, don't bother. You cant paint outside in the rain, so dump your coolant and do it right.
