Anyone have a plasi Dip paint job done? Want to paint my 08 rims with a silver car. Trying to figure out what color to paint them.

ive seen a few 2012s..

plasti-dip seems pretty decent for what it is. Also if you mess up, you can peal it off easily, given, you have many layers. For some reason, this stuff will not peel with 1-2 layers and is a headache due to many small pieces.. when 4+ layers are given, it sticks well, but peels off in one piece when you are peeling.

Also, theres no prep work other than washing your rims apparently

I like the pasti dip idea for trying to figure out what color I like my rims before I would have them power coated.

The photoshop thread is a far better way to see what your car/wheels look like. I've had them chop countless pics of my car.

02 wrx wheels on my 93 leggy. I sanded them down with fine sandpaper and cleaned them really good, then just used semi gloss white spray paint. I did 4 coats and 4 coats of clear. been driving on them for 2 months and not even a scratch! that includes countless trips to white pass

painted mine today. gonna be on a 99 legacy sedan so i will get pics up as soon as i have them on the car but for now...

after being primed

after two coats

after 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of enamel and 2 coats of clear

little bit of overspray but it came off with a tiny tiny bit of terpenoid on a rag (yeah i know, i felt sketchy about it or rubber... but i played it safe and it came off without a fuss and i used VERY little)

going to do one more coat of clear but i will do that the next day its nice and i have a chance, so it can sun bake again. they look amazing, so ready to have them on the car. the center caps will end up being color matched black to the car but i have to wait for the paint
after the last clear coat
on my leggy outback wagon

THE INFO:
cleaned by hand with water and soap
sanded by hand with 600 grit sandpaper to get the factory clear off
primed with 2 coats of Rust-Oleum automobile primer GREY
sprayed with 3 coats of Dupli-Color acrylic enamel DA 1672 FLAT WHITE
sprayed with 2 (and one more to go) of Dupli-Color High performance wheel coating HWP103

Thank you so much!

Id say it really depends on your friends color scheme. Ive noticed that with a darker tone, with the light silver 2nd tone, it would look a bit weird having a dark color repeat again. for example, New port blue base, light silver, black wheels. Just my 2cents though.

Have fun painting and post pics!

good thoughts, yeah his is like the opposite of yours i guess. so i will have to talk to him about color but the silver just looks so stock... he has been wanting new wheels and i just dont think he needs them right now (engine/exhaust upgrades first) so maybe i can get him to paint them and wait on the new ones.

i will post pics for sure, as will i post pics of the other set of rex rims i have for my car when i paint them. gonna find a really cool gunmetal with some sweet metallic fleck in it.

there isnt alot you can do, especially with the tires on, if you dont have them on you *can* take a metal file to it SLOWLY. just dont take too much off but smooth it down, with tires on you really cant do much but sand it and use a dark color, you wont notice the curbing as much

Hey guys first time poster here but after going through every page I think I'm going to paint my stock 03 wrx wheels. My wrx is wrb what color wheels do you think would look good? The wheels are plasti-dip black at the moment and the color is very dull. I was thinking about going gold but everyone does gold. What do you guys think?

gold is always a good choice, especially if you can find an original shade. just do something you like. i always like black, white, gunmetal or gold on WRB subies. so just do something you like, plenty of pics up of what they look like! enjoy! and POST PICS! we wants to sees!

I did mine I'll post pics at some point. I did it to see how I'd like black wheels (seeing pics isn't the same as seeing it every day) but it seems to be holding up well so I'm leaving it. I also like that you can paint your lugs... It will inevitably rub off, but it doesn't really matter because you can just spray em again I hate the way chrome lugs look with black wheels
