Default Do I need Meth/water injection or just a prefrence?

I read some of the sticky and skimmed through the section a bit. I get the gist that anyone would benafit from meth/water injection. Do I need it though. Stage III wrx w sti short block with wiseco forged pistons, forged rods acr bearings, tuned by turbo xs running 16-19 psi boost and lots of bolt ons.

Nah. You don't NEED it. But you could run your engine a little harder, put some more boost in there, and get more horses safely.

Need is a strong word. Your car is running now so i guess it is not needed right? People run 500whp+ setups without meth, why would you think you NEED meth at stage III?

short answer = no

I was thinking just to cool things off a bit and to prevent detonation if I decide to go with more boost in the future and retune it. But mainly for temp. reasons. Car runs good, recently did a warm leakdown test and got 10% on 3 cyls and 13% on the 4th. Dont burn oil but I think my turbo seals may be taking a dump. Puffed out smoke a few times (greyish) during a hard accel. but never blue and never on cold startups. so I figured Id get a bigger turbo retune and ad meth to prevent detonation and keep it cooler.

Alternative to running water injection, richen up the AFR is the most common practice to protect your engine from knock when encountering a dose of bad fuel or high ambients. Most of the time, the engine management will pull back timing and richen up the mixture even more.

A little bit of water will do wonders and will prevent the ECU from going to plan B. Only inject ~10-15% of water(to fuel) and a few psi of additional boost. Beyond that, you will require a re-tune and a water injection system with failsafe.
