For DD, I would rather have 2 or 3 knock off wheel sets (winter, summer, autox)then one original expensive set.

Its funny because in my experience people just like wheels that look good, only a douche would make fun of a good looking knock-off wheel.

Cool...someone said it for me so I didn't have to.

It's one thing to receive some nice wheels as a gift, and be humble about it. It's something else entirely to whine to your parents to get nice things, then look down on someone who actually worked for what they have. That kid needs slapped.

Has anyone really thought about why you see more Rota failures than other companies? Probably because they ARE affordable, and within the reach of the normal person. More on the street = more reports about damage.

And more often than anything people will look at those broken wheels and say "oh look a Rota broke surprise!"...not paying attention to the fact that some dumbass understeered into a concrete barrier at 87 mph. Huh...wonder why it broke.

There's a reason certain parts and standards only make it into magazine coverage, car show coverage, people take pics of your whip, etc. Don't expect to see your car in a magazine's reader's ride's section any time soon rocking rotas.. Just sayin'

But to each their own, I personally, would love to have media or magazine coverage.

Media coverage or a cover means you spent mad dough on your car. I was never a fan of these car show queens. I prefer cars that are driven, like they are supposed to be. But to each his own.

I find it funny that this thread was started because people were being ignorant and calling rotas "fake" and it goes from that to ignorant people saying "people who spend over 400 a wheel are blah blah blah". Bottom line you get what you pay for, and you need to decide where you want to spend your money. If you want a great looking set of wheels rotas are great, I am considering using them on my GC track car.If I go sliding sideways into something on the track and they explode I can just throw the car on the trailer and head home. On my street car I will not go with anything less than a good quality forged wheel (this may seem like reverse logic), I hit a pothole hard in my street car I want the wheel to bend (forged) not shatter (cast). You can still drive on a bent rim; ask me how I know....

down-pouring rain and a hidden washed out pothole did a number on the right side of my car. Still able to drive two hours home, and an ocasional run to the store in it when I was missing my scoob while I waited for the insurance claim to go through.

I hit a curb head on at 40mph with rota tarmac II 17" wheels and bent one of my struts it hit so hard! 3 out of 4 wheels bent a little but got them all fixed and to this day they have my track tires mounted on them, no problems.

there are much much worst quality wheels out there that is for sure, i would still take rota over somthing like xxr or dai any day....

You still get what you pay for!

Look at it this way, 1% of the population will be able to tell they're knock-offs.

Who cares if they're cheap as long as they look good?

Until I see documented tests and production methods this thread and everyone posting is completely worthless. Not just a little bit. Completely unnecessary. No one has posted any real evidence. Just a bunch of oh well my buddys Rotas broke.

We are a community. Not a bunch of idiots arguing about a point that cannot be made.

I drive extremely hard all the time and lived in Upstate NY for 3 years. I had a set of 6 year old Rota Tarmacs on the car and never once had an issue. With all the potholes and dirt roads and crazy driving I never once had a bend, leak in a tire, nothing at all.

I had a friend who bought some Volk LE28's just cruising around bent a wheel.

There are countless stories weighing the pros and cons of both. It's such a stupid argument. Rotas are great wheels with some great color and style options out there for our cars. Now on my forester I am running a set of BBS but will probably be picking up a set of Rotas for an extra set.

This thread is a dead horse, the OPs question has been answered... No rotas are not "fake" wheels because they do not try to pass themselves off for anything but rotas. Their strengths and downfalls have been discussed in many different threads..

I've had my Rotas for 4 years and they still look great and I love them(Tarmac 3's) some people spend a couple grand on wheels and that seems ridiculous especially on a daily driver. I'll take Rotas over the thousand dollar wheels any day!

You guys are arguing about wheels (Rotas at that). It's not like you can see them while you are driving your car anyway. Take it for what it is or do you want to be one of the "ballers" that constantly have to worry about having curb rashed their $2600 set of wheels every time they drive? I don't know why people get so pissed off about the reinvention of the wheel. Also, why does it matter if someone's parent(s) bought for their child? How does that affect a person's life so badly to the point that people have to groan about it on the internet? Somehow I find it ****ing hilarious people are or were getting pissed about another person's car.
