Default Car Starting Problems..please help

I have a 1996 Subaru Impreza L
2.2 ej22

Little Back ground on my issue. A few weeks back my car randomly wouldn’t start after sitting for a few days over the weekend. I thought I left a light on etc (thought nothing of it) jumped my car and it drove fine for a week. The next week I washed my car on Saturday then it sat till Monday, when I went to leave for school again it would not start. Once I got it started again by another jump I drove to the local autozone. Had them check my battery it was reading 14 volts..and was told it was fine. I noticed that my positive terminal was corroded so I replaced it with a new terminal. After replacing the terminal the car seemed to start up faster, run better etc..so Im think yeesss its fixed..
Two weeks pass of the car working great..I go to start my car on a Monday and guess what? it wont start,,when the key is in the ignition I hear the ting ting noise letting me know the keys are in the ignition So I know the car is receiving power but when I turn the key further to start the car all the lights turn off and I lose all power and the car wont start. so I loosen the negative terminal turn it slightly, retighten go turn the key and the car fires up. My car ran fine all last week, this weekend it sat for fri-sunday I go to start my car for school today and guess what ? It wont start..fml...again the car (warning dings when the keys are in the ignition) I turn the key to start and nothing all power shuts off. Any thoughts of what’s going on will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like some kind of connection isn't being made. If cable to battery is cleaned up and making good connection and cables are good, might be ignition switch or bad solenoid/starter. If the car won't start, while you have the key turned try wiggling it at same time. My wifes car did same thing and had to replace switch, otherwise might have to get starter bench tested.

Yea its weird when I replaced the positive terminal my car worked fine for two weeks...I checked the ground terminal it has zero corrosion and it tightens down firm on the battery post. So you think its the starter not the alternator? Is there any test to perform to trouble shoot this? I will go try wiggling the key

So I tried wiggling the key...but now my car barely had enough power to make the beeping sound when the key was in the ignition, so battery has lost power from this morning.

The alternator will recharge the battery while running, if it didn't work the car would die while driving it around. I've heard some people tapping on the starter casing with a hammer to try and knock any junk built up on the brushes inside. Can take starter off and get it tested at your local auto store.

Likely battery wasn't charged sufficiently. Get a jump and let car idle for a while (30min) or get a charger and charge the battery.

Yea that makes sense and it didnt die while running ever..yet the battery does seem to be losing power..i guess I will have my battery re-tested then if its fine pull the alternator and starter and have those tested. Any other suggestions while im working under the hood/\?

So I will jump my car with my wife's car here in a sec... I read this:

Try this: With the vehicle running, disconnect the positive cable from the battery. If the vehicle keeps running, the battery could be bad. If the vehicle dies, the alternator is probably bad.

Do you suggest this?

Well I understand the alternator part since it does all the electrical work while car is running, the battery is used more for just starting the car or when you need something electrical (windows, radio) while car is not running. If alt was bad the car would pull from the battery but it wouldn't last very long and again the car would die while driving around. (true story happened to wife )

I wouldnt pull the cable off while its running that works on older cars but it can cause damage to the diodes in ur alt. I would suggest making sure all ur grounds are clean and tight. And do the same with the power. Sounds to me like u r losing connection on either power or ground

Ok so if ur car sits for a couple days it wont start and the battery is dead?. If this is what is happening I think u should charge ur battery up and then disconnect both negitive and positive cables. Let it sit for a couple days then hook it back up. If it starts u have a draw from ur car if it doesnt then ur battery is bad

So before I try and re-wire the ground terminal...does mine Look like even needs to be replaced? There's no corrosion ,,, Im not sure if this is the cause of my problem or what..since the ground its connected to a wire..how hard is it to put a new one on? Do i need to solder to attach a new terminal?

By the way I just re-attached every thing after getting my battery checked for a second time,,the battery checked out fine again...so 5 min ago I tried to start it up and it fired up first try and the battery is no where fully charged..so Im at the point that I think something is draining the battery while it sits...again when I drive the car during the week I have 0 problems mon-friday..when the car sits is when it starts not starting...

Im thinking about doing the DIY Wire Grounding...any thoughts?!!? think this would help?

I think you have an intermittent short internal to your battery. I have had it happen to me a few times. Try a different battery.

The load test most places run won't catch an intermittent short as you have to load test the battery for a minute or more to see it in most cases.

What patrack said or take starter off and get checked or ignition switch. Could also check connections to starter. I'd investigate these as opposed to tracking down a grounding issue

Ok I will try what patrack said this weekend I can let it sit then..but I need my car for school this week....

So I went out tonight to see if the car would start, since it started up fine a few hours earlier...all the lights came on in the car acted like it was going to start..then all I could hear was clicking, which I believe would be the started then the lights died and the car didnt start....seems insane to me the battery would lose its charge that fast...Like Patrack said it seems I have a draw.. but what? I dont leave my keys in the car so nothing is on, all my doors are shut and the lights are off. Its also strange I havent changed up anything on my car..its been fine for months and now something is drawing power randomly when the car is off?

I guess I need to try that test of unplugging the car both positive and negative and letting it sit to really see if this is whats going on. Thanks again guys with your help so far.

Seems like a draw man. I am a mechanic and I do this stuff everyday. Ur draw could be a lot of things not just a light . After we make sure its a draw then I will try to help more from there. So charge ur battery and get to school for the week then this weekend make sure ur battery is charged and disconnect it. Then we will go from there

So last monday I used my fiance's car to jump my car. After that my car started every morning perfect mon-friday with zero issues. Friday morning I disconnected the positive and negative terminals on my battery l, the car sat all Friday, Saturday, and all day Sunday until now. Just a few mins ago I connected the positive and negative, my car started first turn with zero problems.

So I really think something is drawing power while the car sits. Im confused to what, when the keys are not in the ignition nothing will work lights, stereo etc...what do you think my next plan of attack should be to locate where the car is drawing power?
