Default Cracked ringland cylinder junk?

Cracked a ringland in my wrx it has all the signs but I've yet to do a compression test. Will be doing one this week. I've been driving it like this for about a month is my block junk? Still runs fine somedays it smokes a lot and them some times it will go a couple days without a hint of smoke. I've been trying to sell I but not really to many interested so I was thinking of rebuilding but I was hoping it be cheap as possible

I don't know how you can be contemplating an engine rebuild, or consider saying you have "all the symptoms" when you haven't done a leakdown or compression test. Do these before your mind wonders everywhere

if the smoke goes away it cant be a ringland. a broken ringland basically just makes a straight pathway for oil to flow into the cylinder. are you sure the turbo seals are not going? or your not getting excessive blow by somehow causing oil to be forced through the vents and into the intake tract?
a sti shortblock is 1800 shipped.

if it is a ringland that cylinder prob has a nice gouge in it by now. do the test then ask questions.

not every time, usually the cylinder turns out just fine unless some pieces get dislodged or the rings break. Ive see it go both ways, good and totally F*ed
