Default Ship and convert uk or japan subie to us spec

I'm looking to get stationed in Germany or England. And I want to buy another subie there. My question is, how hard is it to convert to us spec and what is the process. I'm having a hard time find info on exact specs and prices/processes. I guess my main question is... Has anyone done it? And if so let me know... Thanks NASIOC friends, later

are you going to leave rhd or you want it to be LHD? If you want to swap the drive side it will cost you from 1500-2000 euro for labour nad 1500-2000euro for parts needed. The timing is about 2-3 weeks. After swap you will get ussual LHD car. also i think you could remap for lower octane fuel. Thats all. By the way all prices are for 2000-2006 subbies. Hope it helps. If you need further information you can pm me your questions.

Why do you want to convert it to LHD from RHD? I've been driving RHD for the past 2yrs in Japan and it's easy to drive RHD. If you're looking to import it to the states after your tour good luck...it won't happen since it's not on the NHTSA's list to import nor will it be 25yrs+. Better off trying to buy an sti while in Guam and seeing about bringing it with you.

Although alot of people say it's hard or can't happen because TMO won't let you it may be possible because a guy here at Yokota has an EVO 10 US Spec and paid 2k to register it here. Not bad to get your ducks all lined up in a row, but better off waiting until you get orders IMO.

What About buying a brand new US Spec subaru(wrx/sti) from japan and get a 7% discount plus better accessories(like rims and such) and they ship it back to the States for you.

Anyone ever try that?

Thanks Nasioc

Whats the process to do this conversion to take the car to the states? I live in Germany right now.I have a 92 wrx right hand drive and I think it has already been to the states. It had some stickers on it when I bought it and supposedly they were from a car club in fort campbell kentucky. I checked out the doors and they have the beams in them already. I also have MPH gauge cluster. What do I do to find out if it is good to go?

Probably not, and you will have to go through a whole bunch of **** to try and make it work. It's not worth it.

Edit: I saw it it was a 92, you may be able to find some advantage with it being old.

Where would I go or who would I speak to to see if its good already, like i said I am pretty positive that it has already been in the states for a while before coming to germany. The doors have the bars, someone switched it to the use dash. What is required of the side markers and headlights?

I'd ask the car inspection place on post to see if it's u.s.spec and able to ship it to the states.

It will be interesting to see if you can make any progress with this.

It's very, very common for Japanese spec Impreza's to get shipped to the UK and converted for UK roads.

Good luck!
