Awesome. BTW do you guys get s rubber smell from this mod? I did something similar, but I just took it our because there was a rubber odor and it gave me a pretty bad headache at times.

Yup. I got that smell. I found an OEM mat on Craigslist for dirt cheap so I replaced it.

I have had mine in for almost a month and have noticed no smell. I also used a different mat from Lowe's though, so that could be it.

The equipment mat I used had a faint smell for a couple of days, but that was it. If it really bothers you, you can just air it out for a few days before you put it in the car.

Found a similar 6' x 4' mat at Lowes, plenty big enough for the sedan. The flexible mat makes it much easier to get to spare tire area than the stiff OEM mat.

Good call. I used this material the other week and it works great preventing things from sliding around. It was easy to cut, and I have the extra material laid on top for whenever I put the seats down. There isn't any rubbery smell, and it was about $21 out the door.

I just did this on my 05 sedan and it came out awesome. Only problem i ran into was finding a rug large enough. Had to be 39"x53", menards was the only place local that had one.

What a great DIY mod. I bought two mats from Home Depot and did the trunk and foot rest.

Yeah, I just tried using the large home depot mat for my bug eye only to find that it's not quite big enough. I'm gonna try to use the left over scraps to extend it up by the rear seats, sort of using the same technique as the OP when he had to extend the sides...

Did this today with the larger mat. Looks good. Messed up the very last cut and so i have one spot that is going to bother the hell out of me every time I'll see it but for $18, whatever. Thanks for the idea OP.

Another one for the collection!

@briguy84 -- I used the Home Depot material; you can flip it over and use the bottom part as your top; it's rubber or at least it has good grip.

I guess it depends on which material you end up using. My hatch has been out all day in 80-85 degree weather with windows up; no tints on windows either. Yeah it's hot but no rubber smell
