None of the current Pioneers can "learn" a car's SWCs. So all will need a steering wheel interface module.

As explainyourface said above, the AVH-P3300BT supports remote commands for call pickup and hangup, but does not have anything for 'talk' or 'voice recognition'. Mute is a good function to assign to that button.

Metra did recently release a firmware update (on 6/9/2011). The comments included:
Quote:
* Fix for a Pioneer P3300BT flavor where the keys did not respond all the time
* Added additional BT commands for Clarion
They also updated the files for Subarus (I don't know what changed).

I've been running this unit in my 2011 STi for a couple months. No real complaints. It's nice that you can change the colors of the unit to reflect the colors in your car. I like the idea of being able to run your ipod and zune, but I just bought a USB Drive, way better then having a cord all sloppy laying around. I want to get HD Radio and maybe Navigation but i'm not sure how much those componets cost? Thats my .02 cents.

You're right that the Pioneer can't autolearn. However, the ASWC from Metra can. It auto learns what unit is connected to the piece as well as what car it's connected to and auto programs. You can also manually program the module. The ASWC supports the Pioneer bluetooth features as well as the voice commands for the AVICs.

Well I got everything installed. The stereo sounds pretty good, the stereo reception is pretty dang good. For those who are complaining about poor reception, ya messed up your install. I could never get a good signal from DC101 where I live. I now get a pretty good signal that is static free.

My problems are...
SWC work awesome...BT buttons don't at all.
I can't stream pandora from my Droid thru BT. I'm not sure if its even possible. I haven't tried a USB cable yet.

Tomorrow I'll install my new speakers, and if by luck my Raamat shows up... I'll start that too.

Can you guys post pictures of your dashboard after the install? My adapter plate is too small for the H/U and obviously the hole is TOO big for the little stereo

Well I bit the bullet and purchased the HU. It also helps that I have a friend that got me a great discount for it...only paid $330 and that's with a 4 year warranty!

Though anything would have been a step up from the broken radio that I've had in my car for the 2+ years, I absolutely love this radio so far and honestly have been trying to drive more because of it, haha.

In terms of the dash flushness with the radio, I needed to put a few washers behind the stop mounts in order to get it to sit a little more flush, but from research it seems no double din really fits completely flush without a little finessing.

The features of the radio are perfect for me--everything that I wanted. I think that honestly, the people who are saying that the radio doesn't have what they expected didn't do the proper research---I was researching this and other radios for well over 4 months before I decided to purchase.

I haven't had a chance to mess with all of the features just yet due to work but so far love the customization of the unit's colors and screen. The big thing for me was the Bluetooth (for phone use) and that it matches up perfectly with my Droid (Verizon) and also transfers my phonebook. The only somewhat annoying thing is that it places your phonebook in alphabetical order by last name. To be able to dial when needed, I also purchased the bypass (not for video play) through ebay for ~$8 shipped.

Overall, this is a great radio!

My iphone 4 doesnt work through any of the 3 different iphone interface cables i have. Wont play audio or video via USB at all.

You have to set up the iphone with bt first, click connect, then open phone on the HU, click on the BT option symbol, and connect. You may have to go to menu, bt settings for connection, then enter the code for it. Default code is 0000.

The functionality is great, I like simplicity, not over advanced crap I will crash and die trying to use. BT phone works great, no audio via BT though. Its a 400$ unit guys, not 999$. I had a unit that had BT audio stream and it was terrible. Id rather have stuff that works right, not just works.

I had a crutchfield wiring harness for a BOSS unit i had, i just cut, and spliced. Most everything you have a question on is located in the manual. Use the E brake wire. You can call via the BT, but you cant dial. Only contact select.

This unit requires some trimming of the plastic framing piece in an '02 usdm bugeye. Either that or it sits to far back.

7/10 to me.

Requiring a different cable to run the iphone is stupid. Its advertised "as is" as a ipod/iphone capable HU. Pandora, or ipod wont connect without their cable. Their cable integrates the aux line in audio with the iphone jack, changing out the HU sees the data some how.

Default Pioneer AVH-P3300BT

I am thinking of installing the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT in a 2011 Forester. Will the USB port and the line in port in the console still work? I don't think this unit has rear USB inputs. Anyone have any luck? Thank you.

You can make the USB port and line-in port work by purchasing a harness. SVXdc sells them as well as the forester harness and even the Axxess ASWC if you want to keep your steering wheel controls.

As for the P3300BT, I had it installed on my WRX for a month. The sound was much better than the stock unit, but the bluetooth was sketchy. Sometimes I could hear the other person fine, other times the sound would go in and out. BT steering wheel controls didn't work either, but I was able to program the ASWC to skip folders up or down. After a month I decided to go a different route and pick up the AVIC X930BT - obviously more expensive, but I definitely prefer it over the 3300.

I've had mine for a month and I freaking love it. Pandora works great. Bluetooth works great everyone says it Sounds crystal clear. Video quality is "good" not 1080p or anything but pretty freaking good. Sound quality is good. I can't honestly tell the difference from HU to HU as to which sounds better. I think people that do are a little nit picky. I have alpine type s comp. Speakers hooked up sounds good could use some more power. Overall I'm very happy with my choice. Great bang for the buck got mine $315 shipped via Amazon. Only thing I can "kinda" complain about is the remote is kinda hit n miss.

Also, Question. Does having it on different equalizers with s.rtrv on with loudness on low kill your speakers? I have it on natural. But switch from powerful back to natural depending on the song. And also take loudness off when it's not on low volume. Anything I need not to mess with? Just don't wanna mess up my new type S's.

Default not sure why

my bluetooth is giving a loud feedback to callers on the other end (i can barely hear it, but they are stating it's fairly loud). any ideas? everything else is working perfectly. my phone is the iphone 4 and all i did was plug in a wired mic into the back of the unit and run it up to the visor.

THanks.

How loud are your callers, may be getting some reverb, is there any mic gain or noise suppression settings, if so, may want to play with them or try experimenting with turning the volume down first. If that doesn't work try the next section.

Move the mic to the A-pillar. Road/wind noise can be picked up if the unit is too close to the windshield. Make sure you didn't pinch any wires and that the connections is seated properly behind the radio.

Hopefully it's not a big deal if I bump this up. Anyone have any experience adding a back up camera to this HU? I bought this camera:
Amazon.com: Audiovox Cmos2 5-In-1 Multi-Mount Back-Up Camera: Car ElectronicsAmazon.com: Audiovox Cmos2 5-In-1 Multi-Mount Back-Up Camera: Car Electronics

I pulled the HU out and quickly tapped into a power wire and ground and plugged in the video cable just to check and see if the camera would show up on the screen, could not get it to work. Anyone have install tips for a cam?

Thats because you need to wire the cam to the reverse signal output on the deck.
I have installed several of these units with back up cameras.
You also need to find out if your vehicle is positive or negative reverse signal, then change it accordingly on the Pioneer deck.

Hope this helps.

OEM radio or aftermarket. If aftermarket you may need to enable the cam trigger input. OEM, put the car in R.

Can always just go to the reverse light, that's always positive...

FWIW: my GF desperately wants her 3300BT back... (

She got a JVC KW-AV60, because of the detachable face and her being in school, and hated it... Returned yesterday, not a month old maybe..

I've noticed the same trend with my customers. They like the look of the full screen of the JVC on display compared to the 3300, doesn't take long for them to start disliking the JVC after day to day use.

Did anyone try to play video with the USB or SD card?
What kind of video format does it support on this?

I've also been having trouble with video playback. First I can't get movies to play off of my Iphone 3Gs 4.1 using cd-iu51v pioneer cable.

Also can't get videos to play off of USB. I've tried converting the file to divx, avi, mpeg, and I either get a "video resolution not supported" message or an "unplayable file" message. DVD's do play very well though.

Still looking into this to find a resolution to the problem....

Default Mpeg4 works with USB

After trying a couple more things out, I found that if you convert the video to avi with mpeg4 codec (720x480) it should work. Just stuck the files in my USB and now i'm enjoying Ultra Music Festival Videos in Audio and Video.

Default Pioneer vs Sony vs Kenwood.

sorry if this doesn't belong here. I'm not yet allowed to make my own thread.

I was wondering what everyone though about their screen on the Pioneer. I hear that its kinda hard to see in daylight, which it's pretty much always sunny where I am, even when it pours rain it's sunny.

In this video it shows 5 different decks and the Sony one they say has the best screen. Looking at all of them side by side you can tell that the Sony and Kenwood decks are a lot brighter than the Pioneer deck.

order: Kenwood Clarion JVC Pioneer Sony

I'm debating on getting a Pioneer or Sony deck once my car arrives, but UI aside I think screen brightness is an important factor.

You're going to have screen washout no matter what you get, if it's that sunny...

AFA bright, as long as the sun isn't directly on the screen, you shouldn't have a problem..

Aren't you allowed to tint like every window on your car in HI?
