Not to intrude, or thread jack, but i love the arguments i see around about the..."By the time you spool i'll be long gone." I used to use this all the time being a muscle car guy,but its kind of like comparing stuff with two different objectives. Sure, any car with torque and low end will win in a short sprint..ex. big block n20 nova vs. 70mm civic that revs 9k...nova in the short sprint, but when the civic get in his power band he'll take the long run...sorry for the aimless rambling, but i just think its funny. By the way nice craftsmanship on your ride def. well put together...

as long as the gearing matches the powerband and there is a usable power band it really doesn't matter where the powerband is.. i mean most of the 10 sec cars here still do a 1.8 or better 60'... which tells me that all this work was for very little.

Just curious what size exhaust housing you used with the Gt488r turbo , in the magazine articial . it`s saying a .86 A/r is this correct ?. thought should you be using something like a 1.06 A/r twinscroll , as other shops are using that size with just a turbo set up .. what are you thoughts on the turbo power band ?

I've been curious also to what the new additions to the car are. I've heard of a new bigger turbo to really crank the power up, but this is just rumors.

I am surprised the original poster didn't use a compound turbo set up instead of throwing in the blower....
I wish him the best of luck though.... |

Nice unique setup. Sure people might not have all good things to say but you're one of the few doing this and sharing the info freely.
Props and nice build. |

If that was the case I think this compound charged idea is better on a grand scale since potentially wont damage your down pipe or turbo while giving the same low end effect. |

Sucks that the rod broke. But hopefully you had a lot of fun before it broke. Rods always find a way of ruining everyone's fun.

At least it sounds like you knew Eagles were crap. I still wonder why people buy cheap parts (cut corners) to simply pay more later for their mistakes ![]() Have any plans for the rebuild? ![]() |

Well so far I have ordered a jdm 2.0L closed deck block and a stroker crank. Pauter rods and JE billet pistons. Acl race bearings. Salvaged the cams and associated hardware. Sent the heads to cosworth for porting and assembly etc. Should be a pretty tough motor...
I think just for the summer I will jam a 30R on there so I can just drive it for once, and then look at making the monster breath some serious fire over the winter. As fun as that kit is/ was, it is a high maintenance set-up. Always adjusting the balance between the two ( S/C and turbo) , blowing off hoses and such. When those things happen, it will over boost basically instantly , and I would say that's what happened and probly more than once. The kit is strong and the layout is good. Belt drive system and dual throttle bodies worked flawlessly. Rob did some very good work in there no doubt. Also as a side note, when I took it apart it had Manley rods in there so take from that what you will. Literally snapped it right in half. The system will require some minor tweaks. Boost proof hoses/ make them all mechanical connections. Hard pipe a few sections and further modularization so it is not so difficult to work on. I also think that it should run a map sensor in place of the draw through. That was a major drawback. Not so much on all it performance but on drivability and efficiency. There were a few things I did that I would change if I was back in time, but all in all it wasn't a bad set up. The heads I would have definitely done different. Although bork mans head work was clean, it just wasn't aggressive enough to be a good pairing with that kit. Fantastic for a small turbo! Not a whole bunch else to say, have been off the forums for a while, anyone else doing any compound turbos or similar? Those billet blocks look promising... I will post a few pics of the carnage when I get a chance... Keep the hammer down people, it's the only way to keep the next generation from succumbing to segways and such. |
