May go back to standard intake to alleviate intercooler woes. It'll allow a vertical flow intercooler. Idk in full think mode right now. ![]() |

How many engines/ringlands have you gone through with this car?
Any ESP legal way to prevent it? |

Bit of history. Feb 2009 change to a 2007 2.5 w/12K on it tune on 94oct at ~18 psi, car's fine the entire 2009 season. Spring 2010 tune to e85 at 24 psi. Starts smoking July 2010 compression check bad #'s...start the tear down and realize that the drivers side, center headbolts, are finger tight. Order new short block reassemble. Never investigate further, I still have the assembled block ![]() Fast forward...down on power, sputtering, lots of oil in intake... we'll see. So really lessons learned through the process. To correct the ringland issue if that is the issue in both, I will be having custom standard or .020 pistons made. Other considerations are head studs, gaskets, etc to deal with the increased boostorz. The allowable head work, etc. Werd. although I will be driving a sweet ass S197 for the Toledo pro....hoping I can out gun krauss in the DSM...or anyone in ESP there for that matter. lol |

![]() Rut Roh. The first full 2.5 wrx esp engine build. Probably won't make nationals this year and I'm pretty bummed about it. Mainly because the car should be much faster and more reliable in the engine department. Short off season in S.D. so I have a bit of work to do. Going to do somethings different in regards to fuel delivery, catch can etc. So I'll try to get back into it and resuscitate this :deadthread: ![]() |

Are there forged pistons in this one? Stock compression?

Pistons are custom .020 over JE's. So weight and dish are correct. Compression alteration will come from decking the heads to the FSM .012 limit.
Crank, rods are stock and balanced. Heads were fresh'nd up as I had 6 intake valves leaking, no porting done. Rules allow 1" in. Everything you want is below that point so... I'll wait for breakin and kinda guesstimate the CR from the compression readings. All I'm hoping for is no more ringland, or engine issues really, and getting some off boost HP from the compression bump. IDK ![]() Dig your car listing BTW Last edited by mccanixx; 08-14-2012 at 06:52 PM. |

Did you at least gasket match the heads up to the 1" point? I did on mine, but can't really say if it made a difference or not.

I've been researching head porting lately as on option for the rallycar, and from what I've read, gasket matching doesn't always produce gains, and sometimes actually hurts. This is mostly because the gasket isn't necessarily the "master template" for proper airflow, and most of the time the real gains are inside the runners themselves. I've seen bench flow results from various attempts of gasket and port matching on Jeep heads, and I'd definitely agree with the notion that gasket matching isn't worth it. However, I haven't researched Subaru heads as much.
