Those are Plinth blocks. NASA, SCCA and other allow them. There is a limit to how big they can be depending on the rules.
Most everyone is going to this now. It's a lot saver as it's not just attached to the floor, which is weak. It's attached to the side rails and much stronger. They are tacked right now. So when they are ready to finish welding. They can remove them to lower the cage to get to the top parts. When they are done. Put the plinths back and finish welding them. Pat, the cage really looks good, they got a lot done last night. By using plinth blocks, you get away from cutting holes in the floor to drop the cage down low enough to get complete welds on the top of the bars. Pat got the sexy ones, all pieces were cut on a CNC plasma table. They hand cut and formed mine.

Got word yesterday that the guys will be starting on finish welding on the cage in the RS this week. They are going to have most of it done and drop down without the plinth blocks so I can get to the top of the cage to paint it. Otherwise I will not be able to once it's in place. Will have new pics up this weekend.

Thx, should be done soon. Going to paint the cage the same color as the car and POR grey the floor and other stuff when I get too it. I'll be back at the shop next Saturday to install the window net hardware and seat with new brakets to get the seat shifted closer to the center of the car. All is left after that is pluging all the wiring back in and installing the dash and front window.
BTW, anyone need any seat brackets? I am selling these. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Patrick L; 04-28-2012 at 02:18 PM. |

have never seen those plinth blocks before they look great, and the theory behind them seems right on. Nice build.

Pat- Nice work man, looks really good. That picture reminds me of a certain car I have to build, of it being completely striped. When I decide to paint mine, for sure painting it that color. Keep up the good work. Them blocks are a great idea and make sense. Lovin the cage.

Last weekend they finished the welding with the dash bar, steering column mount and window net hardware.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today finished it off by prime and painting it to match the car. I eventually will paint the floor POR grey. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Patrick L; 05-12-2012 at 11:35 PM. |

All the props go to my cage guys for their hard work.
Next weekend I start with pluging all the wiring back up and fitting the dash back in. Put the seat back in and get the wind screen reinstalled. I hope to get the car back home soon. |

You could always just keep your stock suspension on it to make it down to Austin for the COBB Subaru OSM.

Got a few things done to the car yesterday.
Reinstalled me Cusco MZ 1.5 and got my Zzyzx Coilovers back on the car. I have one insert that will need to replace but I can get an alingment now and replace it later with out messing up the alingment. I got a kill switch too install but ran out of time yesterday. ![]() ![]() Test fitted some 17x9's with 265 Hoosier slicks. The wheels were +30. If they were only a +35 to +40 they would clear the fenders. I had tons of room on the inside thx to my Zzyzx's. Alingments specs, Toe 0 F&R, Camber -3/F -2/R. I could probably add a bit more camber and get them too clear. I'll be running my stock wheels with 225/50-16 Hoosier R6's or maybe something else. I got to run my stock size wheel for Improved Touring S. There is a local series at Hallet that I plan to run in at the end of July for it's first event. I may run a different class as their classing if different then SCCA when it comes to IT. I got some 17" slicks that I want to burn up and some bigger brakes.
