Default Soon to be impreza owner (hopefully)

Hello nasioc,
I'm new to the forums and am looking to purchase a 2012 Impreza Sport 5 door.

Never had a Subaru before and have been an Acura buyer from some time. I currently have an 06 Acura TL which I love, but am ready for a change and more dynamics. Better mileage and AWD for my wonderful canadian winters would be some nice bonuses as well.

I visited our local Subaru dealer this week and was completely taken back by the Impreza Sport. I was thoroughly impressed with the styling and standard equipement.

I'm going for a road test this friday and will probably discuss pricing as well...oh yes pricing, a battle for which I always lose.
Any negociating tips anyone??

Any case, I had a few questions that I'm sure someone here would know..

1 - The OEM crossbars are a pricey option. Are there any aftermarket crossbars that would fit the mounting points? or is it best to stick with OEM crossbars?
I'll be sporting roof cargo for the first time so I'm not very knowledgable to this subject. I read a few posts on the site about thule and yakima, but am still a little unclear.

2 - The sales guy mentioned that the car requires 91 octane or higher, is this so?

Thanks in advance for any help...I'll surely update the post with my testdrive review.

Just curious, why Impreza Sport over WRX/STi?

I'm coming from the Acura world as well (just sold my MDX, had an RSX previously) and I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Sport Limited. From my test drive, it doesn't have the same power as my previous cars but it really felt like plenty for what I need. It was really fun to drive (CVT and all).

Rampager - I can't answer for Mouf, but I didn't go WRX/STI because of price and styling. Yes, it's a big performance difference, but it was a trade-off I came to terms with. I need AWD but the '11 Impreza is too boring (Outback Sport and WRX are better, but still didn't do it for me) and the STI is lots more money. The new '12 Impreza styling is more appealing to me and I loved the contrast of the silver car with the dark gray Sport wheels, so I went that route. Now I wait (like so many others).

Mouf - I can't really answer the crossbar question, but everything I'm reading about fuel seems to lean toward 87 octane being fine for the 2.0 engine. That's another reason I liked the Impreza (no more Premium fuel!)

Hey guys, I would have loved to go with wrx/sti, but like arizonacats the price jump is too much.
The price of the car in Canada is well above the states, even though the exchange rate is fairly close.
