didn't read anything on bigger injectors having any effect on passing smog??

2004 wrx
vf39
04 sti uppipe (catless)
megan cat less down pipe (will swap stock dp back in)
PE 800cc injectors
perrin short ram intake (will swap stock intake back on)
sti top mount
walbro 255 fuel pump
Pro tuned at yimi sport tuning 4 months ago with a cobb access port

My plan is to put the stock down pipe and intake back in and go get it smogged. Should i switch my map back to A. base map tune (given to me by paul so i could drive my car safely to the yimi), B. Stock map, C. Cobb AP stage 2 map, or D. just leave it on the current map. the car runs great and my A/F is just around 13.9 to 14.3 when I'm cruising. any input is helpful

thanks,
Beau

When we smogged your car you failed emissions as well. You failed emissions, functional, monitors. Basically your whole car was doomed befor you got here and nothing we coulda done, not even illegally to get you to pass. Read the print out. Slap a stock DP on, drive around and you will pass both next time.

Nothing we coulda done to get you to pass even if we looked the other way on all the mods. Emissions were still horrible, and you can't cheat on anything with our newest ESP machine we got last month.

Then you left our shop bad review on yelp. Once you pulled up and said smog it, what are we supposed to do if your invidia cat isn't working efficiently anymore to pass, and monitors werent ready. You didn't want a pre-test to even see, and you oviously knew the emissions were bad since you were trying to get it really hot prior to telling us to smog it. Kind of uncalled for.

Good luck.

Quick question I blew 0.2 co on idle which was great, but on the 2500 rpm test i failed miserably blowing 2.3 (1.0 limit). Everything else was good. Ive gone back to completely stock minus catback exhaust and APS 50-50 valve, (valve came on car when i purchased it) which means i sill had stock catted DP in. I'm Running stock tune. Can the aftermarket bpv be my problem or should that not effect the test? Thanks all.

Is it adjustable to go full recirc/atmospheric? I'd say yes that's part of the problem since your computer is trying to compensate in your fuel levels due to the 50/50 set up you're running... Besides until you're in the 22+ pounds of boost range the factory bypass valve will hold up just dandy... Another issue is the possibility of a blown catalytic converter...??

If i slap a stock bpv on my car and it still fails I guess ill contact subaru. It will be 100% stock again. Arn't the cats covered by 8 year/80k warranty?

Very useful thread, kinda reminds of when I lived in Bangkok (some serious smog issues in that place)

So will I pass with stock airbox and stock dp + cats minus the uppipe cat.
Will I need to re-flash to the stock tune? or keep the tune I have?

Engine:
3” Down pipe helix bell-mouth cat-less with O2 sensor extension
DIY OEM gutted up-pipe with resistor mod
DIY throttle body coolant bypass mod
3” HKS Carbon fiber Ti catback >> Now resonator with stock axle back.
HKS BOV SSQVI>> Now OEM BPV
Samco inter-cooler Y hoses.
Stock intake w/ silencer delete
Gimmick Motor Sports Silicone Turbo Inlet
Gimmick Motor Sports Silicone After MAF Inlet
Grimmspeed 3 port EBCS
Grimmspeed phenolic spacers 3mm + two gaskets
TGV deletes
Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump
DW 6500cc injectors

A tune.

Nothing I wrote in my Yelp was untrue. Take criticism when it's warranted. I rated the service I got from your tech, not the actual results of the test. The new tech's attitude and demeanor towards me left such a bad taste in my mouth that I decided to speak up. Had I failed and someone simply said "Unfortunately, it didn't pass because ___ and ___." then I would have walked away feeling fine and probably come back for the non-free retest with a more sure-fire passing setup, just to give you guys back the business since you were nice to me last time. But this guy had no customer skills, and everyone else that was around during the test suddenly disappeared.

Just FYI, I passed perfectly fine the next week at another shop, no change to my setup.

Moving to CA in a few weeks and there is absolutely no chance that I can pass smog. Looks like I'm going to have to sell my 05 Turbo Baja. The guy I bought it from modded the heck out of it in a state that doesn't have any smog checks. Really sad because the car is great.

Those that would affect emissions:
16G turbo, cat-less cross pipe and up pipe, Quad tip 3-inch turbo back exhaust with dump valve, light weight crank pulley, manual boost controller, cobb intake (has CARB sticker on windshield), intercooler moved up front, pcv valve bypass/cleaner

I will be working in Mojave so I expect to land somewhere between Palmdale and Tehachapi.

the only main problem is cats and pcv and for turbo i would get like a rusted heatshield to cover it up

Thinking about getting a Mad Dad Shorty DP and Mad Dad axle back and reflashing to stage 2.

If reset to factory settings with 1st and 3rd cat in place, will this pass smog? I don't have to go until 2014, but want to make sure I won't have to take my DP out every 2 years.

Everything other exhaust/intake in the car will be stock.

Also, does anyone know a recommendation for a smog inspection in San Diego or in South Orange County?

Anyone??? Buehler?

Quick Question. I have AEM carb sticker but the last 2 numbers aren't there? What numbers should be there for a 2003 wrx? You know where they hammer in the last 2 numbers. Please help?

Since I see a couple smog techs in here, would you guys say that the stock DP is the most important thing in passing? Not to threadjack but I have an 04' that is due for smog with an External Wastegate UP (EWG dumptube) and and catless DP. The EW is welded so I can't really put it back to stock but would putting the stock DP be enough to pass smog?

[quote=TK421;36581233]blah blah blah "not even illegally to get you to pass." blah blah blah "you can't cheat on anything with our newest ESP machine we got 'last month." etc... [quote]

Ok, as a smog tech myself you never say that first part, specially on a public site.
2nd the star program is not up so whether you got the machine last week or 10 years ago its the same.
Be up front to the customer if they failed for functional i assume it was for monitors. the vehicle failed to complete obd self test/monitors which is fine, it is not your fault don't go around the problem, let them know.

My advice to the customer is to replace aftermarket components with factory i.e DP, up-pipe (if applicable), intake, bpv
drive the vehicle 60-100 miles to set monitors unless they follow proper procedure to quick set the system.
and be sure to have the cat/s warmed up prior to smogging.
