Can someone point me to the kit that only costs 37 bucks? I can only seem to find the DEI kit and it is nearly 100 bucks.
![]() Edit damn I'm dumb. I missed the part number in the OP ![]() Also if someone wants to be a saint and sell me some extra out of their kit I would gladly pay you.

The lasagna noodle effect has no impact on heat, it is cosmetic. I can touch my turbo with my bare hand at ANY time if that gives you any indication of heat retention.

So I would like to contribute. I know Ron was against telling the sizes but I would like to give sizes to show a reasonable size for the turbo wrap material used. Or was that for his header wrap how to?
I bought the wrap and realized I had enough for two wraps my 02 wrx and my friends 09 sti I slightly tapered the under wrap about 1/4"~1/8" but for the most part it was a square cut. I cut the under wrap directly down the middle but to one side of my mark. This left me with the two over laps with the 1/8" smaller one on the bottom. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Really wanted to pull the trigger on the PTP for the ease of install but my shrewdness wouldn't let me when there are other cheaper alternatives.
Got a buddy with an '02 to go in on a 15003 kit for $37. Killin heat soak for $18.50 vs $80+... YES PLEASE! ![]() |

I put some DEI spray sealant on the end of a piece of the DEI Ti wrap to keep it from unravelling.
Then to see what happened I put a match to it. ![]() A wrap that cannot absorb combustibles would be best, IMO. |

I'm assuming some extra DEI titanium wrap would work just as well as the OP's brand of wrap? Or is there something special about the dual layers?

DEI titanium will work fine as long as you have that overwrap. The overwrap lends a certain degree of liquid repllence to the wrap. Nothing special in 2 layers except more is better when it comes to insulation.

by dual layers I meant overwrap/underwrap
I will be doing this when I wrap my up-pipe (stock heatshields rusted off) thanks! |

I suppose just the underwrap is better than a sharp stick in the eye, but the overwrap probably protects it from getting crunchy. If you are using the titanium alone, it might be OK. If you have extra, give it a shot if its just going to collect dust on a shelf.

gold reflects infrared and heat rays, nasa uses it on their satellites, so maybe a gold alloy coating for high temp? booya
just buy the blanket, you might even be able to hook it up to an external battery and some equipment to reverse the heating process. unabomber might be right about it being cheaper to make your own wrap, but everyone has a different opportunity cost. In the time some people would spend reading forums, taking off the turbo, and making this thing they would have earned enough to just buy the blanket and have someone do it for some flo unless they are china crap clones that dont fit worth a damn like motorcycle abs plastics, then doin it yourself is way better. to each his own. |
