Default COMe to Mosport

Reg is open. Best track on the east coast, no questions asked. NHMS and Limerock are a joke in comparison. Nothing compares to Mosport. This event usually doesn't have a lot of attendance, so there is plenty of track time available.

If I can get all the new bushing and alignment plus corner balancing done on my 944, I'll be there. I have never actually drove on that track before but a little bit practice on iRacing on that track so I know which corner I'll be a bit scared of.

I will be there. Last year was a tease, there was only one dry session the whole two days. Very much looking forward to this one.

I'd love to go, but I can't make it. I will confirm that it is my favorite track that I have ever driven that still exists, though.

I'm interested to hear which corner it is...the one that's a lot faster than it looks, the one that's super fast and you can't see where you're going, the turn that you're hard on the brakes for that if you lose it when you crest the hill at the apex you will hit the tire wall, the corner that you really don't need to use the brakes for, or the corner that you need to use all the curbing on the exit of the track for where there are walls on both sides?

IMO, turns 3 and 9 are the only corners that aren't scary there.

I just looked at the COM schedule again...there's a chance that if the stars align, I could make both the NHMS 3 and 4 events. Originally I thought I could only make NHMS 4. If the finances work out, I might be able to get everything ready for NHMS 3 and get a chance to play with y'all...

That's exactly what you are talking about. Turn 3 is the one that I need more work on and very scared of the tire wall especially of the track is wet. Somehow, I can't seem to get the entry and exit right on that turn. I guess with my less hp 944, that would help me to learn the entry and exit point better.

In a 944 on turn 3, you won't have to worry about getting anywhere close to the tire wall unless you totally lose the brakes on corner entry. It's even more slow in-fast out than normal because of the increasing radius. Even if you overcook it a bit going in and blow the apex, if you can make it past the apex still on the pavement, you'll stay on track because of how much the radius increases. You'll kill the exit speed, and the lap will be slow, but there's no real danger of hurting the car there. The outside wall isn't as close there as the first video in this thread makes it look.

Because of turns 8 and 10, the line through 9 isn't as fast as it would be if it had straights before and after it, so there's a pretty big safety margin there.

This and WGI are 2 tracks I'd love to drive on. This year, pinkeye will not be making either *sad panda*

Still hoping to make the remaining 2 NHMS events though.

I thought I'd apologize in advance for the absolute beating your tires, brakes, and mental state are likely to suffer at our event at Mosport next week.

I've just finished the first draft of the 'schedule' (I use that term lightly).

A typical day at NHMS includes about 90 minutes of seat time for each run group. That's 4 sessions of about 22-23 minutes each, and as you know, some of this time used for the checker/cool-down laps and such.

The schedule for Mosport includes approximately 330 minutes (5.5 hours) for day 1, or approximately 4x that of a typical day at NHMS.

Day 2, the TT day, is likely to be in the 4+ hour range.

8 hours is a conservative number. It's possible to hit 10, but hey, let's just call it 8 for now. Figure a typical lap time of 1:40 on the 2.459 mile circuit. In 8 hours, that's enough to turn 708 miles (288 laps)!

A few years ago I turned 525 miles at COM's 2-day event at Mosport (200++ laps). Gordon drove a bit more and beat me by a handful of laps. Looking back, we both were probably standing around the paddock too long and not in the cars enough! I suppose it does take time to refuel, swap tires around, and other essential pit-stop activities.

Here's to rejoining the 500 club at Mosport (and reaching for the 700 club!).

Bring tires, brakes, oil, gas money, and sleep!
Damn, only 8 hours of track time....I was hoping for more...
