I think most likely it will be STX or STR from everything that has been seen. STC is probably not a proper fit for the BRZ.

Think RX-8, S2000, and MX5 classing as the most likely guides.

my first autocross runs were in a friend's 200hp Acura RSX. On the same day, I ran my Impreza which had 300hp at the time and got nearly the exact same times. I'd probably stomp those times today in a 100hp Miata.

Wow, glad I stumbled on this thread. I keep putting off autox myself just like someone said, because I was making it out to be too big of a thing.

GT - I know some of the AWJ guys like to go out to Qualcomm stadium when autox is in town. Hell, I don't even know when that is, but I'd love to go and watch and maybe do a ride-along with someone who knows what they're doing.

Yeah, don't just watch. Just go out and drive. The car stock is plenty to have a fun time. Heck, the base Mini and the normal Mazda 3 can be a hoot doing Auto-X in. The BRZ should be an absolute blast.

Just get yourself a proper helmet, up your tire pressures to around 40 psi and have some fun.

Yeah, helmet is next on my list. But I just moved and cash is looowwww. I keep trying to trade parts for a large helmet, but everyone seems to have little tiny heads...

In my experience, most clubs have loaner helmets available for novices. However if you think you'll be doing a lot of it, it's a good idea to grab your own. Any helmet rated M2005 or SA2005 should be fine, but check with your local sanctioning body to confirm.

GTerran,

Years ago, SYMS built a normally aspirated Ej20 with ITBs that was making 280bhp. This was back before the fancy new engine we've got here that has variable valve timing.

In my 2.5RS I took if from the original 165bhp and took it up to 225bhp while keeping is 100% streetable and 50 state smog legal. I recently spun a rod bearing so after all these years (ran it for more than 50k mi at 225bhp) I am going to throw in some forged pistons and finally bump the compression on it and take it up to 250bhp or so.

While I don't think the BRZ needs 300bhp, I think getting it to 240-250bhp shouldn't be all that hard and will be more than enough power for the chassis and its weight.
