Decided to paint my stock bbs gunmetal. I picked the color out at a local auto paint store and had them mix it up in spray cans. The materials are in the pic below. I'll update this post with the base coat number soon. Processs for the wheels included.
1.had tires dismounted
2.clean/degreaseing
3.sand 180g
4.bondo curb rash
5.sand 320g
6.clean/degreaser
7.primer filler
8.sand 320g
9.clean/degreaser
10.primer
11.sand 1500g
12.clean/degreaser
13.two heavy coats of base
14.two heavy coats of clear
15.baked in the 100F California sun for 8hrs the next day.
The whole process took about eight hours.

Can anyone find pics of an 11-12 STI SEDAN w/ the stock wheels painted graphite gray or black? (Enkei)

I am considering going that route using Plastikote. Thanks

That was the thought and it does kind of peel off but it's harder than just regular plastidip. Probably easier to heat them up or something.

Looked through every page and didn't see a specific name for blue spray paint product. Anyone?

Also, I didnt see any legacy 2.5i wheels, I'm going to be painting mine this weekend, here are some quick shops. Any thoughts on the color? Leaning towards blue, hence my previous question.

Is there any way to remove the center cap of the OEM '11 wrx wheels and replace it with a custom one that has the red wrx logo on it?

you should be able to as i believe they are just plastic clips with the metal cap on it that hold in.

I've seen on here some sti and wrx logo'd ones you can purchase. Would those fit? What tool would I use to remove the caps?

I cannot answer that as im not sure at all. But when i had to replace my cap since it got stolen or just came off, I believe a Xacto knife could squeeze in and pop it out, although i would be really careful. Other option would be remove the whole wheel and pop it out.. lol

Found this through google.

NOPE! Absolutely DOES NOT work. DO NOT DO THIS and expect it to be a quick job...I couldn't even 0% pressure wash half of the paint off. I used about 5-6 layers or plastidip too.

Ver7 STi wheels painted Volvo 451 gold. We tried several different gold paints including Susuki gold. My paint guy did have to add tint to soften the yellow associated with the 451. The wheels had some deep gouges and curb rash but he was able to buff these out. Total cost was $275. DuPont paint and clear coat.

4 Cans of Duplicolor engine enamel (I don't know the color name, but it looked like a gun metal grey when I bought it. But it didn't by the time I got finished.)

2 Cans of Duplicolor engine clearcoat

2 Cans of rustoleum primer

Per Wheel:

2 or 3 coats of primer, sand down with 350 grit, 2 coats of engine enamel, 2 coats of clear.

The wheels looks like a dark grey in the shade or indirect sunlight, but when the sun hits them they look like this. I'm pretty impressed with the outcome!

http://s1267.photobucket.com/albums/...t=383579f4.jpg

Total cost :$55
