Some people (like me) enjoy the experience of building their own personal car, and the anticipation of it being built exclusively for them. Got my deal for a pinch over invoice. And my salesman said he likes to take pictures of ordered cars arriving on the truck for their customers. Sorry, but that's just crazy cool. I'm stoked

Different strokes for different folks, just a different car buying experience, that's all.
Agreed, different strokes, but I do think many folks have been waiting 3 months for the opportunity to order a 2013 which will then take 6-12 weeks...maybe. That gets you to 6 months pretty quickly.

I am no expert, but I have had a similar experience as the guy in New England. Dealer stock lists 0 WRXs, but the allocations which are incoming, are being offered to those buyers who have reached out and conversed with a salesperson. I got a call yesterday about 6 WRX allocations which are inbound. I have already put a deposit on one at a different establishment which should arrive in 5 days. They can still customize and add options to a certain degree, so it can be "your car", as much as any car stock, mass manufactured car can be "your car".

I could have waited for the 2013, saved a model year but for what? If this was a Ford then depreciation would certainly be a factor, but the Subarus, and specifically the WRXs, don't have depreciation to the degree which makes that a decision point. I would rather be driving my new car then pining after my soon to be new car which may or may not arrive before Thanksgiving.

Anyway, different strokes, but there are cars out there for those that want one. Call, talk to a real person, get out from behind the key board and you will find it.

Cheers

All valid points, rugbysecondrow. My wife's past two cars (a Solara and CRV) have both been end of year, sitting on the lot closeouts, CRV with ~200mi on the clock as 'new'... both were/are perfect save for a rock chip on the CRV (found as soon as we got home, of course). Though you're still getting yours fresh as a daisy off the truck. (congrats btw!)

I can't lie, my decision to factory order doesn't come without a certain level of stubborn pickiness. I declined a Sept. allocation of a base and limited, limited more so because of the lousy color than anything, not naming names

Well, what better first post than to say I JUST got back from the dealer ordering my first Subi!

2013 WRX base, OBP. I added fogs, STi short throw, all-weather mats, footwell illumination (I know...), carbon fiber B-pillars, armrest extension, and side moldings.

From what I can tell, I got a decent deal. I know Evanston was offering a deal for NASOIC members but I paid a premium to buy from the local dealer (Chris @ Subaru Bensenville) for service and warranty peace of mind.

Not looking forward to the 6-10 week wait, but it's my first new car so I figured its worth it to get exactly what I want. Anything worth doing right, is worth waiting for haha.

Thanks for all the resources on this site while I was prepping to buy!

I've been considering ordering a 2013 STi in OBP through Subaru's VIP Program as a gift to myself for my 21st but I'm worried about being screwed on my trade for my 2011 WRX Limited because a buddy put a dent in my car that now shows up on insurance so that sucks . So we will see what happens.

Damn, when I was 21 (20+ years ago) I was just happy if I could scrounge together a few bucks to go out drinking with my college buddies. Can't imagine paying a $400/month car loan or whatever a new STI will likely cost you.

Man, I don't know who these dealers are. There are less than 10 Premium hatchbacks in the Northeast. I wanted one of the 3 remaining black ones and two dealers I called were asking $600 over MSRP because of the supply shortage. Had to drive 180 miles to NY to get one.

The last premium or limited 2012 WRX hatch in Washington is in Olympia and the idiots are asking $33k for it!

I am about to place the order on a 2013 STi. I just bought a 2010 STi last weeekend but caught the dealer engaging in fraud on the CPO so I *ahem* convinced them to take it back. At this point, I'm done on the used car search and will buy a $1k beater for the 2-3 months while I wait for a new one.

Did you order with nav? Just an FYI at least me and someone else ordered an swp sti ltd w/ nav in march and April and are still waiting. We are from the same distributor... Not sure if there is anyone else besides you after me in line. There are also none coming on the next boat...

I was told that the foot well lighting is unavailable on the 2013. It's also no longer an option when building a 2013 sti on Subaru.com. I'm confused now...

Hmmm...I'm not sure about that. To be frank, I using the 2012 options book because the dealer was positive that nothing had changed. I suppose when the 15th rolls around and they input the order, I'll find out for sure.

I can still select it on Subaru.com Maybe not available for CA?

I posted the 2013 accessory guide right to page one. It is a little fuzzy though.

I can email anyone the PDF of the 2013 accesory guide to help you build your car. Just PM me with the request and the email address and give me 24-48 hours.

CHEERS!

I am guessing the car that I was told is allocated for me does not have all the options I wanted. Will they take that car at port and install whatever options/accessories at port? Or will they only add certain specific options while at port, and force me to have the dealer install the rest?

Honestly, this has been the biggest PITA I have ever dealt with. I know what I want, Subaru knows what I want but it seems to be an up hill battle that I may or may not win.

Some accessories are port install, and some are dealership. My dealer said they are installing the short throw at port and they would install fog lights at the dealer if I wanted. So it all depends on the accessory I think.

Anyone know of a good dealer to order a 2013 sti hatch in the bay area of ca? Been trying to buy a 2012 for about a month and just kept on getting the run around.
Now I just want to order it how I want it.
