The EJ25D is a direct bolt on. but not plug in. the ecu will need to be changed but in the end i think it will be an easier swap. Plus the EJ25D has a stock 30 more horsepower.
You don't have to change the ECU or harness. Everything will just plug in and the car will run.

Yes. I'm sure. I've done many engine swaps. I do the reverse of what you want to do all the time. I put the EJ22 in place of the EJ25 all the time. Same wiring.

Okay cool, now my problem with the 2.5 is that it goes through head gaskets like it is its job, in your experience have you seen this and what kind of power gains am i lookin at with the Ej25 swap plus intake, full cat back exhaust, headers, lightweight flywheel, lightweight crankpulley, MSD ingnition, iridium plugs, new wires etc...

Just about every 2.5 phase 1 has the head gaskets go at some point. The newest MLS gaskets from subaru don't go bad. The older gaskets either have a black coating on the outside or a brown core. Those are the ones that go bad. The new ones are all silver. You might gain 30 hp over the 2.2. It's not worth it IMO as far as gain per $ spent, but it will work.

ultimately what im looking to do is get significantly more power out of the engine and I want to be sure that the engine I choose to swap in can do this for me. With the 2.5 and all of those mods how much do you think i can gain over the stock 2.2. and if its not enough to warrant swapping the engines. what engine would you reccommend for a swap

In my opinion, ensure the block and head mating surfaces are flat, give them a good scrubbing with scotchbrite, and use Cometic headgaskets. EJ25 problems do not come back (for me anyway).

Yea I decided im gonna go with the EJ25d swap over just swapping the heads on to a ej22. too much work. When I get my EJ25d im looking to do some internal work to make it run faster and better. Cams, pistons, have the valves ported and polished etc... Any suggestions.

Did many conversions on Legacy I and II and they all ran/run great.

I decided to just swap the EJ22 out of my 95 legacy sedan for most likely an EJ25D. Im looking at engines now and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on some before i buy anything.

Default SOHC to DOHC

http://www.bestofjdm.com/JDM-ENGINE-...jdmsubaru3.htm has an ej22 dohc complete long block you can always think on that.

on another note, I have a 90 legacy wagon ej22 SOHC with a bad head gasket and 200k+ miles on it and I am thinking about just replacing the whole thing with a ej22 DOHC longblock from best of jdm. Will my ECU run the DOHC version of the ej22 or should I keep searching for the original SOHC that I already have in it. If it will work what issues might I run into.

Thanks for the input.

Rule #1: Start a new thread.

But to answer your question you will have to rewire your whole car...
