Default overheating

I have a 2004 wrx. Custom build 2.5 block with 2.0 heads. At time my car tends to overheat a little at idle, when I am really on the gas or going uphill. I am up in the Barstow area. This only happens when it is really HOT outside. Whenever it running into the red I have to pull over and basically turn the car off so it cools back down. When I am going downhill in neutral I am running at the optimal temp. When I am driving in the morning when it is cooler. The engine never starts overheating at all......Besides for the obvious sun....any reason why it would be doing this and how can I fix it
