2012 STi(Canadian), factory alarm with factory shock sensor. I'm wondering is there a way to tell if the alarm went off at some point but I didn't hear it? i.e. does the car make any different chirps when I come back to unlock it?

You can program and reprogram subaru remotes multiple times....including to different vehicles (but not at the same time that I know of).

They fed you hogwash.

It's possible that they were knock-offs and that's why they didn't work, but having been programmed to another vehicle before doesn't matter.

You don't. Not with an OEM remote. It wasn't an option then.

Great info in this thread, thanks for posting it. I had a dead keyfob that would was not fixed by swapping in a new battery. The three-key-cycles trick worked like a charm.

I have an '05 wrx and my fob is acting up. The lock button works, but the unlock button isn't. Would this most likely be an issue with the fob or is it possible it could be an issue with the keyless entry unit itself? Thanks

More than likely, it's the fob.

If you open the remote and take out the circuit board, you will probably find that the 'tab' for the unlock button has come off. It's pretty small, so ope the remote on something where you will be able to see. it. Seeing that it is only held on by very small weld points, if you drop it too many times, the weld points break.

I have been successful in 'crazy gluing' the tab back on, but you have to properly line up the weld points to the tab with a VERY small amount of glue. There are 4 of them, and if just one is not making a connection, the remote will not work.

I actually tried that before I posted, but forgot to mention it. Thanks for the response though.

The tab is intact. Checked the welds with a magnifying glass and all look fine. I think the button is simply worn out. Thank you for the advice. I never would've thought of that!

I bought a used one on ebay earlier today. Hopefully you're right and it's just the fob. If not, at least I'll have two now

Ok, so i think my car is in valet mode because the lights do not flash now when i unlock/lock it, my remote works because my power locks still work, but now my security light no longer lights up at all, and my starter is disabled, somehow it happened before and i unplugged the security module underneath my center console because i needed the car to start . It was just working just fine but i did sit in the car for a little while installin some stuff.. I plugged it in an it started fine, but now all of a sudden it wont .. I am going to try to take it out of valet mode first but again my security light is not coming on at all .. yet power locks do still work so i figure its not the fuse ? Is there a separate fuse for just the factory alarm. and yes i only have factory alarm . 02 WRX

Try locking and unlocking the car with remote and trying to start it again. If the car was unlocked and the door was opened and closed without starting the car, sometimes it turns on the start interupt. By locking and unlocking the car, it resets it. Or try turning the key in the ignition 3 times fast.

Car started just fine 15 later must have done what u said without knowing , but anyway, Can anyone explain why my security light does not come on at all now ? It is definitely plugged in underneath my center console and it is not In passive mode if that would make a difference. Is there a fuse for the security/alarm that I may have blown ? Power locks work perfect so it's not that fuse I'm guessing.

You don't need an ID...just program it using the steps in the first post for your model year.

Hopefully it works, seeing it is from EBAY...not many people have luck with those.

does anyone know if adding a $50-100 aftermarket keyless system to a 2012 imp would pose a security risk?

So, I bought a used teardrop fob off of ebay and went to program it the other day.

I can't get past the step where you turn the key in the ignition 10 times within 15 seconds. I don't hear the horn beep.

I'm definitely completing it in 15 seconds. I used the stopwatch on my cell phone. My car isn't in valet mode. Also, my horn does work.

Any ideas?

Trust me. You'll get it. It's easier then you think. Open/shut door.
Key in. Turn from off to the farthest position without starting the car and do it 10 times. It doesn't have to be fast or anything.
If you don't get it after 10 turns then start over and by start over I mean open and shut the door again with the keys out

Try resetting the system by disconnecting the battery.

Hi.

I'm extremely frustrated. I'm starting the process, turning the key from LOCK to ON 10 times very quickly, and not even so much as hearing an electronic tone...

Maybe I'm in valet mode? Do i need to be out of valet mode to program remotes?

Yes disconnect the battery for a minute or so and try again. That's what I had to do to program mine. Mine was in valet and took it out and now it's back in valet again? Even after programming my new fob? Lolwut
