I'm looking to get 18x8 +48 wheels and 235/40-18 tires on a 2011 WRX with stock suspension. Is this the correct fitment with no fender mods? If not, can you recommend the "proper" 18" fitment?

Of course, as mentioned, different tire brands will have slightly varying specs for the same tire size.
He was talking about section width, not height .

Some of you guys seem to have a good sense on wheel and tire fitments. Next year i wanna plan on putting 17x9 +42 work emotion cr kai wheels on my 2012 wrx w/ a 255-40-17 dunlop direzza star spec tires. Question is will this be an ok fitment cause i dont want to do any fenders mods and i wont be doing any suspensions mods either. (possibly in the future put stiffer sways but not going to lower it, where i live it would be stupid haha)

If any of you can help that would be cool...thanks!

yes,

265/35-18 will also be very close to stock tire diameter - but may require rolling.

I want what you want too ... but...
I contacted Works wheels and there is no 17x9 with a +42. I was told that +38 is the closest offset they can make to what you want. Same goes for the new Ultimate wheels. Remember that we need the 5x100 and not the STi 5x114 PCD. Weight is about 20 lbs. WRX stock is about 22 lbs per wheel. Sales guy said the new wheels are about 0.5 lbs lighter but also around 20 lbs. ok.

Anyway, if you can get those specs then it will work (although the tire diameter will be slightly shorter - which is, IMHO, better for the WRX's acceleration). ODO will be slightly affected - ie. it will show more miles than what was actually driven - only slightly though.

Not sure if you need to mod the fenders though but it will be very close either way.

Let us know what you do - those wheels look great!

Fender Modification: will be rolling rear soon but atm no, no rubbing.
Wheel Spacers: none.
about a 15mm clearance between inner rim/tire and front strut. next tire will probably be 255/40 depending on if clearance changes with rce/bilstein kit. in the second pic the front wheel seems to stick out pretty far, looking at the car now it doesnt seem as much.

OK so i meant +44 offset not 42 in my last post. And it looks like 255 i might run into problems. What Casey posted up above in another thread is what I think i should be leaning towards. 17x9 +44 rim with 245/40/17 tire. Im trying to figure out the best way to avoid any fender mod on a new car and i dont want to lower it. Of course 255 would be a tad bit more aggressive and cooler but im looking for DD spec to not ruin my car.

What do you guys think about this set up?? Would it look dumb on my 2012 or work? If anyone has similar set up mind posting some pics? Thanks!

Work Emotion CR Kai
17x9 +44
no spacers
still no fender work
same tires as before, 245/40/17 Conti Extreme DW

i loved my gold wheels, and they were a lot lighter than these, but i think these look a little better and the size is more what i wanted in the long run. being a non-lip wheel, they look larger and have that nice concave look because of the width/offset. and still doesnt rub (that ive noticed).

Here is someone else on the forum with the same setup as casey. So it has to be possible i can get away with this.

Hey Noob Here i have a 08 Red wrx and i am looking a few different choices here one is a

18x8 +48 with a 225/40r18
or
17x8 +48 with a 215/45r17

both in bronze and they are rota torque which do you think would be ok with a stock suspension for now

So I will be getting my 18x9.5 +38 RPF1s in December (hopefully) and I'm well aware of the fact that I will be rolling the rear fenders. My question is, which tire size would be more of a comfortable ride. 255/40 or 265/35. I know the 40 on paper would be the wiser choice comfort wise, but will the 9.5 wide wheel stretch the 255 to the point where I should go with the 265/35. I plan on gettin Hankook Ventus V12s if that is to make a difference (I know some tires run wider depending on the brand). Thanks for any info that is thrown at me.

255 wont stretch much on a 9.5" wheel, also depends on what brand you get.

a 255/40 is TALL, you'd want a 255/35 - or the 265/35 since you are going to roll your rears anyways.

real quick. i KNOW the offset is not "right" for our cars, but i have a line on these bbs that i can to get for an absolute steal. 18x8.5 +30 (bbs ch). anyway of making them fit with im guessing the oem sti tire size?

car in question 2011 wrx (stock suspension).

Since the OEM STI wheels are 18x8.5, they should fit fine...

would it be equivalent to oem sti wheels with 25mm spacers? (18x8.5 +55 w/25mm spacers) vs (18x8.5 +30)

I think I misunderstood your first question. I thought you were just curious about the tires fitting on the wheels.

Not sure if the wheels will fit without rubbing. And the math looks correct on that equation but Im not 100% sure as Ive never messed with spacers.

lol, sorry its a weird question, i know. its worth a shot though, especially when you can get these wheels (still in the boxes) for HALF the price, cause your friend fell on hard times .

car in question 2011 wrx (stock suspension).
Check the bolt pattern. If the wheels for sale are 5-114, then they won't work. WRX uses 5-100.

I posted earlier, but my car was at stock height. I have lowered the car and it all sits very nicely! My initial concern was that a roll all around may not be enough, but it is.

If i'm going to run 245 star specs do I need a 17x8.5 or 9? I assume they would be too big for the stock wheel on '12 wrx?

Reason I ask is I am told they run wide, I will be using them for autocross.
