I bought the mirrors whole off a wrecked STi. You can find the part numbers at the top of this thread or search any online subaru parts depot.

This is going to sound dumb, but is there a way to do this on the 06? The mirrors look the same, but I'm assuming they aren't, could the new covers fit the old mirrors? Or I could get 08+ mirrors and they would bolt up?
Great writeup by the way. |

If you lube up the wires/hanger it will slide through the rubber tube much more easily.

busyychild great info. It is quite possible that the 11+ WRX premium is wired for the turn signals. It could just be your car as well, we never did figure that out ;-) I see you found the thread on 3gWRX about the same thing. I was keeping track over there of which people had "live" signal wires from the factory (they all have the actual wires) but we found no rhyme or reason.
For instance my 09 premium WRX had dead signal wire. But fortunately it is about 5 min to make them "live" which I explain in the thread on 3gWRX. Adding heat to a base is not too bad either, the dash wiring is there and you can use some unused wiring in the door. Now let me know when you are ready for JDM power folding, most of the wiring is there in these cars for those too ;-) |

It looks like on the STI compared to the WRX harness the only additional wires are the Green/White? Wonder which one coincides with red/black on the LED.

does anyone know how much it would cost to get them painted? Im looking into doing most of the installation myself, except I would probably try to get them painted professionally.

Time to look around for wrecked STi's to steal some mirrors. It's such a subtle change, but looks so good for some reason. The WRX mirrors just look too plain.
Thanks for confirming the STI mirrors fit and work. After reading the initial writeup, there was no way I was doing all that work haha. |

Wish I would have bought a premium because this is definitely going on my "to do" list. |

Its not too much work to add the signals, it amounts to breaking down the mirror a bit, and adding the signal and some wiring. Saves a lot of money over buying whole STI mirrors. Junkyards price them high because they came off the STI.
I have extra signals and caps. If you get a set of non-signal mirrors and send them to me I'll convert them to signal mirrors and send them back to you, for a small fee of course. The caps I have are assorted and used so you'd have to have them painted. |

I forget what the place I went to charged. I also had the chrome piece on the trunk done, but I don't think it cost me more than $50-$60 for the caps/trunk chrome painted. You should be able to get the caps painted for no more than $50.

make sure its a newer STI for donor mirrors. I bought a set from an 08 and the harness was different.

They are easy to re-pin to another connector housing, but if you are buying whole mirrors you'll want to get them to match whether you have heat or not. |

Once you get the hang of it it is very easy to do. I think that the dissassembly operation was posted in the tutorial thread over on 3gwrx. When I converted my mirrors over and added the power folders I started with a set of STI signal mirrors (8 pin connector) and then, based on Power6 and other's wire maps, combined the power fold unit, the signals, and my own heated mirrors into one housing and ran that all back through the 10-pin connector that was already in my car. |

I recently purchased the caps and lights for my 2011 WRX premium. In the process I also found out that the mirror harness is not available separately, you have to buy the mirror assembly which comes pre-wired with the correct harness. This leaves you three options: splice into the wires that you need and put small female spade terminals on the other end to plug into the lights, or buy the mirror assembly with the wiring already there, or try to add the pins needed to the current mirror harness plug and find the correct plug for the indicator light.

I'm wanting to do this to my incoming 13 limited hatch. If I'm understanding correctly, there's a chance that the existing harness will come prewired. Sound right?

If you find out, definitely let us know! I'm interested in doing this to my '12 Premium (even if I need to wire it myself; I'm a Electrical Engy so it shouldn't be much if an issue!) |

Would it be plug and play for a 2011 wrx if i just purchased the harness for the mirrors? I want to avoid tapping into any other wires.
