Meeeemoriiiiiies....

I started this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/petiti...004/signatures

What kills me is Juneau with their 92 octane. A town with ~80 miles of road and nowhere to go, no track to race at, any sanctioned autox, rallyx, or the like. Bah.

Juneau's supply of gas comes from the PacNW. The refineries there are set up to make 92; our refineries-Tesoro and Flint Hills are not. If you checked, I'm sure you would find that Chevron and Shell gas is exactly the same stuff, from the same refineries, but with a few parts per million of additives so they can put their brand on it...

I thought it already was confirmed that Chevron and Shell were the same as everyone else, just additives?

Costco now has additives as well. I might check that out. It definitely doesn't stink like it used to (when filling up my fam's Envoy or Silverado).

I didn't know they even had premium. What additives, how do they compare to shell/Chevron, where'd you get the info?

They've always had Premium. And it's cheap, too. The additives are posted above the pumps. Nothing too impressive.

Newbie here. Just got a Cobb AP, intake and downpipe and wondering what everyone else here is doing since there is no 91 octane available. Is everyone just using octane booster with 90? I guess no AP for me...

most add torco or have a meth/alcohol injection kit...both avail locally from P3 and Underground...

most use the ANC 91 maps (poor fuel maps) with torco if wanted but not necessary. You could always get an AP custom tune from some folks on here as well.

I was also running the 91 ACN stage 2 OTS map from Cobb with no issues on my STI using Chevron 90. It was for a short duration since I still felt 'unsafe' even though the car was logging fine, so I decided to get a little headroom with Meth and a custom tune. I tend to be pretty paranoid though

I loved the logging in the cobb though.. definitely leverage that.

Like most use torco. I use it and its a bit of hassle having to do a freakin mix all the time but its gets the job done.

Why not go with meth injection?

Both torco and meth will do the job fine. Personally I would just get a tune. 90 with a tune is fine for DD. Second choice would be meth. If you go with torco hope you like the color orange.

Yes torco over time will leave a tint in the exhaust . It's one of the only "octane increasing" additives out there that works, where's the fun with a straight 90 octane piss water tune? Add meth or torco or hell even both and have fun

Agreed. If you have the money do meth. I said tune because its an affordable way to have it running right. Another +1 for both. Meth and E85 here I come

Never any problems with "regular" gas in my car-or my motorcycle. Weird. What's Torco for? Wait-we pay more for gas than the United States and somebody who lives here pays extra for an additive to keep their street car from exploding? Kidding.

If you're old then I don't know what to call Ralph anymore.

Anyways, +1 for meth or torco as well. Why live life boring and on the pump?

Too dangerous and inconsistent not willing to risk a 36K motor on $100 safe fail. Plus, there really isn't anyone with my platform that uses meth. All the top shops and top tuners said to stay away and I trust their judgement.

I've never had issues running pump gas on my 93 tune. I DD it, TanaX'd, Ice raced and Auto-x'd it with no noticeable issues. I've done a few logs earlier on and the car pulled timing as needed to compensate. was within reason. IF I decide to go for speed, I'll install a meth system as I feel it is a better fail safe than Torco. Torco IS probably the only additive that actually can make a difference, but seeing the inside of an engine that religiously used torco, and the head/pistons being crusted orange turned me off of using it.

Personally, if you are running a 91 program, I wouldn't sweat it and find no need to add anything. Running a 92-93 program is marginal. Stock cars from Subaru (and many other makes) now "require" 91-92 minimum octane, yet everyone and their uncle is doing fine on Alaska's pump gas. Not to mention the millions that picked up a FXT or OBXT and are dumping .. *gasp* regular in it.
