"Opus is the result of a collaboration between Xiph.Org, Mozilla, Microsoft, Broadcom, Octasic, and Google."
http://opus-codec.org/comparison/ And it's been standardized as RFC 6716! The world of audio codecs just got a lot simpler. |

Nothing 'wrong' with them, but they made some improvements for MY09, leaving the people with 08's pretty upset.
it's been 4 years since I've driven the 04 STi I had, but, I stepped down to the 2.0l wrx after that, and then back to the 2.5l wrx now, and I don't feel like my car now, with the same mods as my STi had, is any slower, likely would run a 1/4mile a little bit quicker I would venture to say. I know there are plenty of other considerations, but, IMO, if you are considering only power, there is no gap between the current generation WRX and STi that would justify the cost. |

He and I already talked about this. The error in assumption that Vindler made I believe is he assumed a constant mass flow rate in. A turbocharger's mass flow rate depends on on the resistance to flow post turbine. Sure heat increases velocity but reduces the pressure ratio across the turbine. And we all know that turbos work off an energy differential.
![]() FWIW, Jason ALSO did the math years ago and found significant reductions in mass flow rate if the exhaust is heat wrapped post turbine. Of course, you want to wrap the exhaust portion that can heat soak the rest of the engine bay so it's more beneficial to wrap at least the 1st half of the downpipe but nothing later. I'll let him speak more on it. I'm just here to coordinate the discussion between Jason's and Vindler's maths. Let's see who's right! ![]() |

Hey fellas. Been a while since I've been on here but I have some stuff for sale if anyone is interested. 04 STI drivetrain minus the engine, DCCD controller and driveshaft. I bought this off of Jared (wastingtime) a while back. I planned on putting this into my 2.5rs but I just do not have the time right now as I work 80-90 hrs a week and am on the road A LOT. Everything was inspected/gutted and declared to be in mint condition by AndrewTech automotive. There is 40k miles on everything.
Shoot me a pm if you're interested. I rarely get any free time to get on here so it will be easier to contact me by phone. |

Installed a header-back exhaust on a BRZ today. Once it warmed up the rasp went away. Doesn't sound too bad

i always double wrap it. if we're talking about your moms exhaust...
mike and i would just agree on the right calculations and there would be no difference in numbers. hug it out, whatever. but if you happen to have some free time, some numbers to start with that are applicable here would be 2.5l 400 hp @6500rpm 12:1AFR 1400F avg EGT(post turbo) i don't have a DP here but accounting for bends, 16' of 3" pipe after the turbo looks about right. you start with calculating approximate mass flow out the engine with some thermodynamics, calculate back the pressure differential required from pipe end to start with constant temperature model. when you get ambitions and think you have it sussed, measure actual EGT at the tailpipe from an uncoated or wrapped pipe, get a good linear temperature based volume loss gradient with as many points along the pipe for that as you want. go back to the first part of your spreadsheet, and make as many datapoints as you want between the two to shake a guess at as tho what a wrapped pipe does. you have anywhere from the full temp measured temp to speculate within. but i'm gonna give you a spoiler: WRT constant mass flow out the pipe and lowest pressure post turbo, it's all a worse result with higher temp at the end of the pipe. you can just eyeball that with some PV=NRT and skip all the real numbers. or you know, take my word for it cause i'm a pal and i've a history of sharing data and insight with you, not lying to you or misleading you without correction or humor. i'm not saabtuner trying to puff up my chest or a portfolio here. anyway, i made the last spreadsheet, you make this one. |
