Default Looking for a Baja

Just bought a WRX Wagon but what I really want is a Baja. I think it's more practical for the things I do. (biking, camping general outdoors stuff).

So I've been looking the past few weeks and I think I really want the 2.5 turbo version. Looks like 2004 was the first year they offered the turbo. I'll need to do some more reading but in a nutshell is there anything that I should be looking for or avoiding?

Is this a good deal?...

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...ngId=329737260

Thanks in advance.

The soft cover on it is pretty lousy, you can see it sagging already.

I would just want to know its service history, being an auto I wouldn't want it (at all), but if I had to, I would want to know the tranny fluid was changed every 30K. Age wise it may be a good idea to do the timing belt.

In oregon rust is not an issue, but in OH I would check under it and around the doors and stuff.

Not sure if its a good deal or not, I wouldn't sell my non turbo for under $30000 though (hey everyone has a price, I just don't want to sell it)

What year WRX wagon do you have? I may consider a trade. Mine is not a turbo but it is one of the cleanest '03 Bajas you will find. The clock says 142k on it, but the odometer was off on the first Bajas by about 10% so it is closer to 130k. We've owner her since she was new.

2004 WRX Wagon
122K Java Black Pearl (Love this color. Looks black but when the light hits it it shows the pearl flakes in the paint. More like a very deep olive green to it.) I believe this color was only done for one year. At least that's what I heard.

XPT Stage 2
Helix Catless Downpipe
Grimmspeed Ceramic Coated Catless Up Pipe
Custom 3in Magnaflow Exhaust
Apexi Intake Filter
Forge BOV
Tanabe GF210 springs
StopTech Performance Street pads
Centric Rotors all around
Hankook RS3 tires
Royal Purple Oil
Also just detailed the whole car to the tune of about 10+ hrs worth of work.

There's another guy on this forum that I'm PM'ing as well about his turbo Baja. I'm waiting to hear back from him. I'll let you know, thanks.

Nice, Lotus1! I doubt it would be an even trade. LOL I'm not really interested in putting cash on my end, so I'd just outright sell you my Baja if you wanted it. I don't think you'd have any problem selling your Rex.

Thanks Kalins1. Yeah, I'm thinking of putting it up for sale real soon if no other trades come my way. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I'm probably a little too old to be driving this thing around amyways...LOL. A 47 yr old street racer...right. haha

In any rate, PM me some of the details of your Baja and maybe some pics too. You never know.

LOL, I'm almost 39, but I still love fast imports.

I have a FS post at http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2369290

Good luck selling the wagon if it comes to that. I'd probably consider a trade with cash on my end, but I have to keep my toys in a budget. LOL Us older guys have so many responsibilities, right.

I would suggest a late 05 or 06 turbo if your going for the Auto trany.... get the leather and the better hard cover that came standard on them..

Just started claying my hood yesterday after I did my wife's car. I think I'm going to need 10 hrs like you.

Claying does take a long time but taping off the whole car took a long time too...which I find is essential to detailing it.

Those two steps right there take at least two solid hrs+.

Well, I ended up selling the WRX. I listed it and sold it literally the next day!

Off to the races to find a Baja now! I'm going back and forth between the NA and Turbo models. Both I know have there advantages and dis-advantages. I drove an NA automatic yesterday and I'll have to say that it felt really slow. Not that these things are WRX's but it really felt a bit sluggish.

I may opt for the Turbo model. I just need to find one that I can actually test drive.

Lotus1, where are you located? I'm going by the Toledo autotrader listing in your first post and I am in Cleveland. Mine is a 2006 5MT turbo and you are welcome to drive it if you are local.

There are three private owned baja on Craigs in Michigan. Wouldn't be a far drive from Ohio. When I was looking last month, there were a couple awesome looking ones in Chicago.

Southwest or southeast?

I am in Southeast MI (Waterford). If you had a WRX you definitely would want a turbo. Good luck finding one locally, I have only seen a handful of them since I got mine in 05 and most of them are autos. Same offer as the other guy, if you want to drive mine just to see what a 5 speed turbo is like, you are welcome too. Although mine is a bit quicker than stock as it has a VF39 and some other stuff.

@Hawk296, thanks for the offer. Yeah oops, I meant to say I'm in Southeastern Michigan. I'm in Farmington Hills so I'm not far from you at all. I often ride my MTB over at Pontiac Lake.

PM me your info and I'd love to meet up and check your's out! I'm actually going to see one tonight in Ann Arbor. It's a 5 speed Turbo with about 100K on the clock.

I've also found quite a few others in Ohio. I'm planning on trying to drive down this weekend to check some of them out.

Here are some of them...
