Default MotoGP Coming to CoTA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MotoGP™ to race in Texas in 2013 at the Circuit of The Americas™

AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 3, 2012) – Circuit of The Americas today announced that the world’s premier motorcycle racing World Championship, MotoGP™, will join its roster of racing events next spring with the three-day series set for April 19-21, 2013, at the purpose-built Grand Prix venue. With the addition of the MotoGP series, the new circuit will be the first North American racing venue to host both two-and four-wheeled World Championship events in one year’s time.

MotoGP, the pinnacle of all motorcycle World Championships, consists of 18 races in 13 countries on four continents with pan-global television coverage. Nine nationalities of the world’s most skilled riders, including current U.S. riders Colin Edwards, Ben Spies and 2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden, compete with cutting-edge, prototype motorcycle technology produced by Ducati, Yamaha and Honda, as well as the new CRT regulation machines from the likes of FTR, Suter and Aprilia. The series traditionally holds three races, including Moto2 and Moto3 competitions, during each event for various classes of motorcycles based on engine size.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive officer for Dorna Sports, commercial rights holder for the MotoGP series, is extremely happy to add the Austin Circuit to the official MotoGP schedule. “We are excited to be working with Circuit of The Americas to expand our programming in the United States and bring our series to an exceptional new Grand Prix facility in Texas. We see tremendous opportunities to market MotoGP and grow its fan base through this agreement and know Circuit of The Americas is the right promoter to help us achieve that goal.”

Circuit President Steve Sexton added, “The Circuit of The Americas team is delighted to introduce yet another world-renowned racing series to our 2013 event calendar—one we know will be hugely popular with fans coming to experience MotoGP for the first time at our state-of-the-art sports and entertainment complex in Austin. MotoGP has a worldwide fan base with more than two million followers watching races in person each year. We’re confident it will be a great addition to our programming and draw tens of thousands of people to Central Texas, creating yet another major event with significant economic impact for our region. We want to extend our thanks to the Austin Sports Commission for its help in securing yet another first-class event for our city and for helping us become the first U.S. racing venue to host two World Championship motorsport events.”

MotoGP’s reach extends to more than 200 countries and territories that receive live or same-day delayed broadcasts of the MotoGP events, with the coverage delivered to more than 337 million households worldwide.

MotoGP 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden, who hails from Kentucky, rides for the Ducati Factory Team and said he’s eager to try out the new Austin circuit. “It’s great for riders and fans to have another MotoGP event in the United States, and Circuit of The Americas will give us a chance to expose more of our homegrown fan base to MotoGP in an up-close-and-personal way,” Hayden noted. “I love competing at new, fresh tracks and am really looking forward to racing at the Austin circuit.”

Texan Colin Edwards races for the NGM Mobile Forward Racing team and their CRT project. The former World Superbike Champion said a MotoGP race at a new circuit just two hours from his home in Conroe, Texas (near Houston), means he can actually “drive to work” for a change. “Adding a race to the U.S. schedule makes a statement that MotoGP is working to expand it influence on American soil. The best way to grow our sport is to add races, and with events on the East and West Coasts—and now one in Middle America—it’s the perfect opportunity for more fans to see us in action. Plus, my family is really looking forward to jumping in a pick-up truck and driving up to Austin to see me compete.”

Rider Ben Spies, who calls Longview, Texas, “home,” is also excited about the 2013 schedule. “Who wouldn’t be excited to have a MotoGP race in their home state? I hope all of my CMRA, WERA and AMA racing friends and family storm the track. It will be so easy for me to cruise down to Circuit of The Americas from my house in Dallas.”

Tickets for the MotoGP event at Circuit of The Americas go on sale Oct. 16, 2012, will range in price from $133 to $199 and be available for purchase through Ticketmaster. Patrons with Circuit of The Americas Personal Seat Licenses will receive price discounts on MotoGP tickets. For more information, visit www.CircuitofTheAmericas.com/tickets.

HERITAGE FLIGHT FLYOVER TO KICK OFF THE START OF THE 2012 FORMULA 1 US GRAND PRIX

U.S. Air Force heritage represented by a modern combat F-16 & vintage P-51 Mustangs and a P-38 Lightning

AUSTIN, TX – Four iconic fighter aircraft symbolizing the history of the United States Air Force will soar over Circuit of The Americas track in a pre-race tribute prior to the start of the 2012 Formula 1 US Grand Prix on Sunday, November 18th at 1:00pm CST. This Heritage Flight, an aerial display of U.S. combat history will be piloted by Captain Garrett Dover in the F-16 Fighting Falcon, Dan Friedkin and Tom Gregory in two vintage P-51 Mustangs and Steve Hinton in a vintage P-38 Lightning.

The modern-day aircraft flying in the Heritage Flight will be the F-16 Fighting Falcon. A highly maneuverable, compact, multi-role fighter that is proven in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. In an air-to-surface role, the F-16 can fly more than 500 miles, deliver its weapons with superior accuracy and defend against enemy aircraft.

Flying alongside the F-16 will be three vintage warbirds, two P-51 Mustangs and a P-38 Lightning. Recognized as one of the most dominant fighter planes of its era, the Merlin-powered P-51 Mustang first entered World War II combat in December 1943. Providing high-altitude escort to B-17 and B-24 bombers, P-51s scored heavily over German interceptors and by war's end they had destroyed 4,950 enemy aircraft in the air, more than any other fighter in Europe. Mustangs also served in the Pacific where they escorted B-29s to Japan from Iwo Jima. During the Korean War, P-51Ds were used primarily for close support of ground forces until withdrawn from combat in 1953.

The P-38 was originally conceived as an advanced high-performance twin-engine interceptor, but its first major production was the P-38E, which had a 20mm cannon rather than the earlier 37mm cannon. The versatile Lightning performed many different missions during World War II, including dive bombing, level bombing, bombing through clouds, strafing, photo reconnaissance and long range escort. It truly shined in the Pacific theater; seven of the top eight scoring United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) aces in the Pacific flew the P-38. The P-38 became the standard USAAF fighter in the Pacific theater until the closing months of WWII.

The Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation (AFHFF) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that honors the

heritage of USAF air power and proudly supports the USAF’s recruiting efforts by flying vintage fighter

planes with today’s state of the art fighter aircraft in close formation. Heritage Flight (HF) performances

involve current USAF fighter aircraft piloted by Air Combat Command pilots and certified civilian HF

pilots.

For more information on the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight program, visit:
http://www.acc.af.mil/aerialevents/h...ight/index.asp or www.AirForceHeritageFlight.org.

The Formula 1 race begins at 1:00pm CST and will be televised on SPEED.

Default Drivers Seem to Like the Track

I wish I could be there:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

F1 drivers hail “spectacular” Circuit of The Americas™
Enjoyable challenge lies ahead

AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 15, 2012) – Superlatives were the order of the day when six Formula 1 drivers faced the first official press conference of the first FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX at Austin’s Circuit of The Americas Thursday.

Among them was Fernando Alonso, the Ferrari star who is gunning for his third drivers’ world title this weekend with Ferrari. “The track seems spectacular, very, very nice, it will be challenging for us drivers and for the engineers as well,” said the 31-year-old Spaniard.

Like most of the 24-driver field, Alonso, a three-time winner in 2012, already ‘knows’ the circuit thanks to technology. “We did some simulator programs after Singapore,” explained Alonso, “then we started getting a little bit more intense this week.”

Alonso also resorted to a less sophisticated method: “We also did two laps on the bicycle and hope to do some more this afternoon,” he added. “I think it will be a good show for everybody and hopefully some good overtaking opportunities around the track so it can be a really good weekend.”

Another F1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, agreed: “It’s quite difficult to learn initially but it looks fantastic to drive,” said the Englishman who is going into his second to last race with the McLaren Mercedes team. “I really started to enjoy it once I got used to it – it took perhaps a little bit longer than some other circuits to learn, but it’s going to be very interesting this weekend.”

Alonso’s title rival, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, was a little more circumspect: “We have to wait until we get out [on track] until we have a judgement on how the circuit feels,” said the reigning champion. “It looks quite interesting but it’s the feeling inside the car which I think is most important so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Veteran Pedro de la Rosa of the HRT team acknowledged the challenge that lies ahead on the 3.4-mile Texas track.

“It looks like a very difficult track with very big gradient changes and most of the corners are blind,” said De la Rosa, whose team’s future is in some doubt with the news this week that it is up for sale. “It’s going to be difficult and challenging.

Kimi Raikkonen, winner of the last Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi for Lotus, just got into Austin and couldn’t offer an opinion, but Sergio Perez summed it up neatly: “I walked the track and it’s amazing,” said the 22-year-old Mexican. “It will be very enjoyable for all the drivers.”
