Default Turbo question

Hey guys i just finished rebuilding my 2.0 wrx with a new crank, bearings, gaskets, piston and rings. It had one completely missing rod bearing thats why i rebuilt it, got rid off all the metal shavings inside. My question is, when i went to put the turbo on i noticed the shaft had alot of play (in/out) and up and down ( just bought the car). It will obvuasly need to be rebuilt but i was wondering can i leave the turbo on just to start the car and hear it idle for the first time untill i get the rebuild kit? also i blew air through the oil line to get rid of any metal that could have been in the turbo from the bearing.
