That^^, definitely causes frustration.

You finally re-position yourself under the car, so you can actually get some good leverage, and the wrench you need is no where to be found. "Weird, I just had it", so you blindly reach all around yourself, still cannot find said wrench. Get angry enough and crawl out to look for it, and it's highlighted in neon colors laying right where you were in the driveway.

Anyway, swapping springs started to become such a PITA on mine (since like you said, you have to basically stand on the EWG to compress it enough to start the bolts), that I just bought a bunch of bolts from McMaster that were the right thread pattern, all different lengths. The longest ones are about 5" long and can thread without compressing the springs at all. Those let me compress it about an inch, then I swap out three of them for ones that are an inch shorter, they let me compress it another inch, etc. After about 5 steps I'm able to swap in the final bolts that can seal it up all the way.

It takes a little bit of time swapping bolts in and out as the EWG compresses more and more, but it's much less fist-through-the-wall inducing than trying to do it "normally".

I've used a drill press(no bit) to compress the EWG and BOV when putting them together and taking em apart. Works good

well i do it for a living all day everyday and on the side. i just treat it like a stubborn woman mouthing off at you over petty stuff and just walk away for a bit cool off and return to the problem with a clear head. If not bad things will happen

I'd much rather have that, with the incredibly tight knit group of Subaru enthusiasts you have, than to live in an area like Boulder where there are ten subarus per eighth mile and 99.9999999% of the drivers couldn't care less what you or anybody else is driving. I was driving down the road yesterday right next to not one, but TWO other modded 11-12 WRX hatchbacks, three wide on a 6 lane (3 each way) road, and NEITHER of the other drivers even noticed.

Everyone's just in their own world doing their own thing up here. In SA you can post on NASIOC that you're going to pull your engine and need some help, and you'd get 5 people showing up the next day with cherry pickers, engine stands, beer, etc. Do the same thing in Boulder and you'll hear nothing but crickets. It's not about the number of Subarus in your area, it's about the quality of the drivers, and San Antonio is hard to beat.

I feel that every job I do on my car takes twice as long as people say. I put on a rear sway bar last weekend. You know how the bolts have an unthreaded section near the head for the end link bushing? Whatever joker owned the car before me used a bolt that had an unthreaded section at the end, with the threads under the end link and an assload of loctite to keep it on (because there were no threads under the nut, genius). Long story short, I disintegrated the rear endlinks and now realize that some of my car's handling oddness may have been from the sway bar being fused in place.
