Kids are spoiled brats these days. Cant they save and buy a car themselves? There's a kid that goes to service that drives a 2012 bmw that his daddy bought for him. Its disgusting and sad.
Yeah yeah I know I don't have much room to talk while I have my car in my daddy's garage. Sell the car to him and let him and his parents learn.

Nah, I'm not attached to the car in any way at this point. I just needed some devils on my shoulder to push the dad into just getting the car. I'm going to stress that a decision needs to be made in the next day or two, otherwise it goes bye bye.
Thanks guys, for the input. Hopefully the kid will be more like Caleb and appreciate what he has, otherwise keep an open open for scraps from a 3G WRX sedan. |

I don't get the hatred for kids with nice cars. I grew up very poor, but if my parents could have bought me a brand new car that would have been awesome. I mean sure if they're douche bags then they're douche bags, but having something handed to them can't make them all bad people.

I'll just say pending sale since the birth dad is going to meet up with me tomorrow after work and the mom assured me that a decision could be reached by Friday.

I appreciate the pre-congrats and positive feedback. I'm always skeptical of these situations until a decision is reached. I pretty much have to convince them that this car will be okay for a responsible 16-year-old Junior in high school to have.
Does anyone have any suggestions on any angles? I'm thinking of, "Well, any car can be driven irresponsibly, but how many have consistent 5-star safety ratings and reliability?" Or, "If you want to ground him by taking the car away, at least YOU'LL have an awesome car to borrow in the meantime." ![]() |

I would definitely go into the safety. Talk about people with 2011s here in Alaska that have crashed and were ok. Davin is a good example!

Work the angels of the crash test ratings, the AWD helping in the snow and slippery conditions. Talk about how many airbags are in that thing up front (six, right?). It'll be the most comfortable crash ever. Talk about the Subaru reliability and how awesome they do up here in AK. There's a reason why there's so many of them running around.
Then...at the end...let them know that the car has enough power to overtake and get people out of trouble if needed. |

Word, definitely saved my life. Only the main front airbags went off and the crumple zones work so well all I had was a bruise on my shoulder from the seat-belt. I'd be happy to text you pictures from the accident if you want to show them.

Test drive didn't happen, but mom called and said that they're just going to buy it! Grandpa is writing the check for $25k, I'll have it processed at one bank, deposited in another, pay off the WRX, go get the title and we're DONE!
I'll post up when everything is final, but so far it's looking 99% good! ![]() |

Congrats!
![]() ![]() ![]() I held out hope, and it looks like they followed up. That will be one lucky little ****, hopefully he understands, and treats the car right. Either way, it will soon no longer be your problem. PS: Welcome to the N/A world. |

LOL You mean welcome BACK. This whole adventure was triggered by Kyle asking me which Subaru I enjoyed the most and I had to admit that I really loved the 2001 2.5 RS coupe whenever it was running right. I just miss having NA and a small cabin.
Also I had the RWD Nissan Pathfinder and the Subaru Loyale sedan before all this turbocharged drama. I told the kid's mom that I usually stay in touch with the buyers even after the purchase to help support the car. I know people and can recommend various services. Hopefully (or maybe not) he signs up here. I think the car is in better condition than when I purchased it new, just higher mileage. It'll be good for him. And thanks. Tomorrow is going to be a busy and long day, but it'll be sweet. ![]() |

I'm actually keeping an eye out for a 98-01 RS (or maybe an OBS in great shape) in decent shape as a second car. I would love to have something inexpensive to drive that isn't so 'big'. I just know, that with this community, they can get snatched up pretty quick (only looking for 5spd).
One thing is for sure, I'll stick with Subaru for awhile. |
