Question 2012 Impreza- possibility to raise?

Hey guys...
Okay so i'm looking to raise my Impreza. Before you go "HEY DUDE THERE'S ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT RAISING AN IMPREZA, TROLL OVER THERE" i have a few different questions.

I know my warranty would be borked, as well as the fact that my handling might change, yada yada yada.

I'm no auto guy, and i'm not looking to spend thousands of dollars. I just want to raise it by a few inches (two, maybe three? something around there, so at least my car won't bottom out on speed bumps as often).

How would one accomplish raising this car? Specifics por favor

I wouldn't be doing it myself, I'd bring it to a shop. But I thought of all people to ask first, it'd be you forum guys.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

p.s. right now i have no body mods, and I have the base 2.0i impreza.

I would assume getting some components from the XV would do the trick. Although you probably won't get that done for under your budget.
Beyond that, since it's not a popular mod, on what the aftermarket sees as just another car (meaning nobody is developing stuff for it) you are going to have a hard time finding anything aftermarket. So, this now leads to custom work, which is again not likely under your budget.

It would be easier to trade your car for a '13 XV.

It won't do anything to your warranty unless they can prove that the modifications you did caused whatever might happen.

I am pretty sure that you can have someone make you some custom springs or some spacers. You might look into how the XV is raised as in springs etc. if Subaru just used a set of longer springs or spacers you are all set. What can they say to you if you use OE parts?
Just a couple of ideas.

All they can say is "Warranty Denied", OEM parts not intended for your model were installed and caused the problem. Now, the entire warranty can not be denied, just damage attributed to the modifications.

look at spacers. strut spacers. i was pretty obsess with the idea to lift my sport impreza. they just the car more lift but 0 increase in strut/shock travel. anyways the 2011 impreza should fit. i have called and email and measured to confirm fitment FWIW.

I'm trying to do the same thing on the cheap like you. I also want to lift it by about 2" or so. I'm waiting on a reply from a shop that custom builds skid plates and such for rally. They do al sorts of crazy stuff to Subies and Evo's. They would know/have what we need. I'll keep you updated. Not sure what I can post or not but I'll pm you just to be sure.

Sounds good, thanks. And i'll ask the local subie mechanics about it as well, whenever i bring it in again. Stupid dash is rattling, and the seat is squeaking >_<

I looked at an XV at the dealer and the rear subframe is clearly spaced out from the unibody with some spacers. This is probably in addition to the front mounts being spaced out and longer springs and/or different struts.

I dont' think that they changed the platform from the previous gen Imprezas, to which you can swap on Forester suspension. It may work a 2012 too.

Also, Subtle Solutions (IIRC) makes a 1" spacer kit for the previous gen cars. This may work on the 2012s.

NASIOC is laregly more performance and street oriented when it comes to mods. If you want more clearance instead of a drop, check out www.dirtyimpreza.com.

Yeah someone suggested that site not too long ago on another post, but I didn't really find much info about this specific topic.

A 1" raise in my opinion isn't worth the money, nor the time, because it won't affect the car much in ground clearance. I'm not looking for crosstrek-high proportions, just between a minimum of 2"-3" higher than it is now.

But what's the forester suspension? Don't know much about that.

Thank you for the suggestions though, appreciated

Okay, so the place i found on the net got back to me just now. They sell a King Springs set that lifts the car 1.2" without messing up the handeling and they say that it even improves it a bit for 455.00. The guy said that if you add in some spacers and a body alignment spacer kit you can get 2" without further mods. Anything after that he said would involve lots of other mods that would IMO be cost prohibitive. His skid plate kits are pretty cool and a full kit would be around 300 bucks.
He sent me some pics with just the springs and the lift looked pretty good.

And I confirmed with my Suby Dealer that the skid plates wont mess up my warranty but the lift will kill the warranty on the suspension and related parts. Let me know if you want the particulars on this and I'll pm you.

So, after some math I figured that with just the king springs and an impreza sport starting ground clearance of 5.9", I would get it to 7.1". Only 1.6" away from the crosstrek ground clearance of 8.7". Not too shabby. If the other doo dads are added on, I'll only be .8" away from crosstrekness. I can live with that.

Btw, the forester (2013) has the same ground clearance as the crosstrek (8.7") and the prem/Limited version is 8.9" So a 2" bump would be pretty close to what we are looking for.

If you could send me the details (on both the skid plate kit, and king springs), it'd be appreciated

As far as killing the warranty, that's not good, but I guess I expected that, haha.

Have you installed it yet?

I would take it to the shop and ask the guy who might be doing the job what he would recommend.

Spring spacers, and an Alignment kit might be all you need. Then an Alignment. Im no expert on Alignments but i know enough to get in trouble.

It would be easier to trade your car for a '13 XV

+1 Wouldn't this be the best solution?

not dumb. just sucks for everyone who bought the impreza before the xv came out. trading up is definitely not the easiest thing to do, it would be the most costly. i mean if you think about ordering a xv then paying for the difference. then waiting 96 days for one. yeahno or you could buy 100 strut spacers, hammer out the old studs and put new studs in and bolt up the spacers. anyways, again not a dumb thread just a different taste. check out dirtyimpreza.com or something like that. just a different beat to a different dummer.

Changing springs for an inch of lift, you can probably get it aligned. Anything more than that and you are high if you don't think your in a world of expensive to get your suspension right.

Also, all that work to allegedly clear speed bumps? Get the **** out of here.

i would like a little raise but it definitely would not be for speed bumps but for snow. but with the fear of voiding warranty, i bailed on this idea

I used to drive a lowered Nissan altima. Is be shocked if I had four inches of ground clerance. It was a snow plow, but never once did I have an issue with a set of snow tires.

I'd just like a set of 1/2" spacers for the rear, so it doesn't look so unlevel. Not worth the time, but if I ever have the rear suspension apart, I may fab some up at work, if possible.
