How well does the led bar do vs your Hellas?

Hate to do a out of domain link but I wrote a complete review here:
http://reviews.iribbit.net/

But, in short, the light I have is a 20" flood light. It is bright as hell and lights up the night. this video (GoPro Hero2) doesn't do it a great amount of justice, but it does give you some information:

For low speed (less than 15mph) offroad use its awesome - you wouldn't need much more. But for rally driving, the flood light lacks the depth and definition needed to see far down the road in front of you. So, I am replacing the HELLLAs with 4" round LED spot lights - I anticipate that will give me the light penetration I'm looking for. We will see. Oh, and I am also getting this 20" flood replaced with a 20" spot light bar.

Hope that helps - let me know your thoughts.

I made this lightbar for my WRX, and modified it slightly for my '05 STi.

Check out my post on page 171 of this thread. The two vertical bars that the round tube connects to are mounted the same width apart as the distance between two upper radiator support bolts. I can provide more measurements if you want, but this should give you a pretty good idea of its construction.

Looks nice, thinking of the doing similar to my car. Let me know if road debris/dirt become an issue. Wondering how grimy they will get.

Anyone try these? https://www.teslaleds.com/default.aspx

I have a few buddies who use them on their bikes. At 3600 lumens EACH, one throws almost as much light as 3 RI Duallies...

I was just wondering if maybe you could fab up something to help with the windshield glare instead of moving them farther out. Kinda like what some gauge pods come with to cut down on sun glare so you can see them better. It's like a round piece with a hood on it, only you need something much bigger and the hood part would go towards the bottom of the light? Just a thought.

^^ I looked into that. I thought of making it out of aluminum. The issue I ran into was mounting it on the lights them selves. Theres no way that I found to mount a hood on the light with out damaging the exterior of the light. My other Idea was to take one of the Hella covers and cut it so that it only covers the lower section of the glass just below the beam (because theyre driving lights with a direct beam). The problem with that is it looks like garbage lol. Moving them outward helped enough to not be annoying but Im still in the search for a better solution. Any other ideas are appreciated!

I've got 1" spacers also, but I didn't think a 27" diameter tire would fit under the spring perch of the strut ? do you have wheel spacers too ?

also, not to get too far off subject...LIGHTS !

I always forget that I ended up going with Forester Struts - turns out they are a good $45 cheaper which is well over $150 savings when replacing all four. That savings paid for the spacers. So, the tires don't rub since the Forester strut is a good inch taller than the Impreza/OBS. I still don't get why the Imrpeza strut is $44 more expensive.

As for the lights, the 20" LED is a test/evaluation unit, it will be pulled an put on another car in due time. The HELLAs will be replaced with 4" LED round spots. I'll post a pic of that when it happens, probably a couple weeks since I want to get it done before I run in the Monticello TSD in November.
