Will finally be giving the car a proper bath tomorrow morning, then some updated pics will be posted! If anyone's going to Cupcake Meet in Dallas, I'll be there.

Yeah man, very nice! Not only is it going to be a beast, it looks great inside, outside, and under the hood. Good for you! I can't wait to see the numbers after you get a new turbo and go e85. How's the e85 scene in TN?

Thanks man! E85 is readily available in Nashville. It's a smaller town than Dallas, and there are a few stations within 10mi of downtown.

Because of the torque numbers with this intake manifold, I decided to hold off on the E85 tune until I upgrade the clutch. Was surprised to see 355wtq with stock turbo on 93oct.

Had a big scare last night. Was driving on the highway for 20-30mi, then heard a terrible rattling noise coming from the engine when I exited. At first, I thought it was something hitting the belts, but after popping the hood, it sounded like it was coming from the engine internals. Fuuuhhhhhhh. Rod knock? Toasted bearings? Seemed like it was one of those. WHY would that happen on a stock turbo only pushing 355tq?? Unamused face to the extreme. I slowly drove 1 more mile to a friend's place and then had the car towed home.
I tried to get some sleep but was mentally preparing myself to pull the motor and have to buy a new one. The noise the car made had that distinctive sound of "you're F'd."
Today, shilohb came by to drop off an engine hoist, and we started poking around the engine bay. He thought it might have just been the A/C compressor biting the dust, due to a weird sound it was making when he manipulated it by hand. I ended up starting the car to see what would happen, and I couldn't replicate the noise from last night. I checked the oil and it was REALLY low (still not sure what would have caused this... haven't noticed any obvious leaks or burning oil. Maybe running higher boost than stock is pushing oil past some seals?). The oil was low enough to where that alone could have caused the knocking/rattling. Because I apparently caught the sound as soon as it started happening and didn't run the motor much longer after that, I might have gotten lucky and prevented any real damage.
I drained the oil and stared at the oil in direct sunlight in several different containers. Saw NO metal in it at all. Put in some fresh Rotella T6, drove it around the neighborhood for a while. Everything seems fine and sounds normal! Danced for joy in my driveway. This might legitimately be a miracle, but I think the car is fine!
I'll be keeping a close eye on it and checking the oil at every fill-up from now on. Also, a compression test is coming soon.

Yeah, I'm still going to be extremely cautious and will be doing a compression test sometime this week. It's possible that the increased boost from my recent tune is pushing oil past some seals and into places it doesn't belong, or my turbo might have developed a leak internally. One way or another, I need to find out where the oil is going.

Huge thanks to shilohb for helping with the compression test today. The numbers look pretty great: 130, 127, 130, 130. The spark plugs seem clean and completely healthy.
Logged a 1st - 4th gear pull on the Accessport, and the fine knock learn and knock numbers seem fine as well.
So, this was great news all-around today, and the noise from hell hasn't returned at all, but I still don't know what caused my oil to get so low. Will have to pull off a lower intercooler hose to see if any oil is pooling down there, and I'll of course be checking the oil level anytime I stop at the gas station.

Random update: I recently relocated to Nashville, so if anyone is in the area, let's meet up! I'd really like to get connected to the car scene here.
It seems like my oil consumption issue is happening thanks to my turbo. I may need to do a leakdown test to be 100% sure, but the oil is definitely burning out my exhaust, so a leaky turbo seal seems likely. I'll be doing some random maintenance later this week and potentially ordering a new turbo. Turbo + E85 + new tune coming soon...

I think about big purchases WAY too much, and thanks to that, I'm seriously torn between turbos. I was initially planning on the Blouch 20G-XTR, but then the 1.5XTR and 2.5XTR came into the picture. Huge top-end power isn't really my goal; I just want a fun daily driver and would love to not blow up my stock block after a month or two. My tuner says if I'm even considering the 1.5XTR, to just do the 2.5XTR. Gahhh decisions decisions...

Also got the Whiteline Roll-Center & Bump-Steer Kit, to upgrade my tie rod ends. One of them started getting shaky on my long drive a few weeks ago. Will be installing soon.

Added a bunch of pics of my audio/iPad/electronics setup. I had kinda shied away from sharing the specs of my audio stuff, but I've been getting a lot of questions about it lately, so I figured I might as well add it. Check the 3rd post in this thread.

Did a leakdown test, just to be 100% sure that the turbo is the only thing leaking oil. Results were perfect. Now I can install my new turbo and not be afraid of some larger issue lurking in the background Goodbye VF39!
