Yeah you most def have to do your research on everything. Turbos, injectors, E85, all that stuff. Making a car better than stock and functional is way worth it! Any car stock is lame.

My two pennies - I broke in my built motor/heads(r199c) with my two 044 T1R surge setup fed by my 255 running id2ks on 91. I'm on an AEM v1 and everything was great. Now switched over to e85 and my only tickle is my average of 12mpg. Man I love the torque!
My next major mod is either going to be a bigger turbo or a flex fuel capable stand alone. Most of my friends on other platforms with bigger setups and 1000+ whp recommended injector dynamics. None had failures and they ran lots of different fuel types. A friends 840hp integra ran e85 and id2ks for years without a hitch. That was enough for me. |

I try to do everything cheaper and different than everyone else., and 100% of everything myself (machine work, fabricating, tuning etc.)
This is what I've learned... I've saved major amounts of money being a DIYer... And the learning is priceless... But I'm also guilty of going too cheap, not buying the really good stuff, or using parts that are just too worn out to save money... I've learned that in the end, a good portion of the time- this has bitten me in the ass! Do it right, or do it twice... Sadly that's true more often than I'd like to admit!! |

Hey guys,
I just went to the track with my slow car. Race weight is 2400ish pounds with driver. I've been running E85 for about 1 year now, in my 1995 2.5rs-L (2001 2.5rs in a 1995 L shell) Engine is 2.6L 11.4:1 compression ratio with 440cc injectors. Naturally asperated. I'm still running the stock ECU, no timing and running pretty rich, so I'm basically at stock power levels. My best ET was a 14.6 and my best MPH 91.7 I'm having alot of problems with the tune, it breaks up at the top of 1st and 4th, and the car stops accelerating at around 90mph. I built the car for the roadcourse, so it launches and shifts very hard, which doesn't equal fast. Due to the suspension, and the tune difficulties my 60ft times wouldn't get any better than a 2.0. I'll post up time slips and a cell phone video eventually. Next year, I'll have around 190whp, and a 7000rpm redline (currently 6150rpm) and I'm expecting to be in the low 13s @ 100ish mph. Fast enough for NA. |

you need to lower your base weight to 3085....and the wheel size is probably wrong too. |

Ron's theory is to always go bigger. IMO, if you're dead set on being "reliable", then pick the power you think is safe and choose the smallest turbo that will get you there. No point in going bigger than necessary and having to deal with the extra lag and none of the payout.

Jakes Base weight should be about 150 lbs heavier than a wrx, because of the transmission and other drive train components weight differences, Bigger brakes and a few other things. so i say a base weight of 3235 will probably be more in line. also the car has sti bbs wheels so the wheel size is accurate. which should bring his airboy down closer to 370 whp

he said a couple posts above he has 235/40/17 which is 1/2" smaller than a 225/45/17 which is the stock tire in the spreadsheet. same wheels /=/ same diameter tire. the tire size will drop the power 15-20whp and the 100bs weight another 5-10.

ok take what you will from this but:
in General 10cm 8cm if auto-x or quicker spool, but 10cm for better top end and better breathability. (please note this is from my research but no actual first hand knowledge. Just lots of research and talking with 2.5xtr owners...) |
