This is pretty cool. More proof that while not forever, these motors can last a bit at higher power levels using diligence.
I've personally had quite a few stockers living between 4-500 lately. Makes tuning more exhilarating, lol! Nice job guys, -Mikey

Tilton clutch.
Base pressure is 50 IIRC. I'm running a walbro 255 as a lifter from our custom fuel cell to our custom surge tank and then two 044 pumps out of that. I'd have to look up the IDC, but I have ID2000 injectors so it's probably getting up to 50-60% at this power level with the low rev limit. Mikey I'll be curious to see how this works out. If I was just going to run drag passes I think I could get away with it for a while with careful monitoring and tune tweaking, but I'll only be running a few drag passes with it. I'll mainly be running it around road courses so it will be taking sustained abuse. Regardless of how this holds up in the near future, one of our built shortblocks is going in because the stock shortblock is a ticking time bomb at this power level. This is a time attack build and we moved some things around to improve weight distribution, exhaust flow, improve aero etc. It's not even close to done at this point, but it is drivable. The turbo isn't in the engine bay. Sorry for being a bit cryptic, but we've had a number of our ideas "borrowed" so I'd like to get this build a bit further along before posting pictures of certain things.

It's going to rain today in the early afternoon so they won't be running the drag strip at night. I guess I'll need to wait another week to make a pass, but I'll be on the road course with the car today as long as it stops raining.
It's odd that nobody else seemed to know about this. Post a link to the thread so we can check it out. |

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=987243 We had more info of this car in a local forum... but the site is history now. I still have a video of this car running 9.88@142 in one of my HDD's. But that was with rods and pistons. At the time nobody thought it was a big deal, now days I think that was a huge accomplishment. I know there is lot more people running 9's in their cars now, but back in the day (2004-2007) it was these guys the only one's running 10's an 9's. All kinds of record are still standing from way back then. You don't hear about them anymore because most of them have move on to bigger and better things. Here's one for example: But I still have my STi though. I just talked to Roly today, and he got a 2011. Maybe we can shoot for that 9's stock location record. ![]() |

Cool thanks for finding that. I went back to the track last night and blew an axle on the road course again so I didn't get to run it down the strip. Hopefully I'll get to the drag strip soon.

I forgot to update this. I've beat the stock engine up several times now on road courses. DSS totally reworked the axles and they've been solid. Mine were an older design and are now updated. It has rained the last two times to the track so only the road course was open. I'm going to Watkins Glen for two full days of lapping it next week so I may kill it before I make it to the drag strip. I have over 100 drag hundred passes worth of full throttle pulls on the road course on it and I've been revving it pretty high and sliding it etc.
The heads are not stock. They're ported and I have upgraded cams and gears we degreed. Last edited by Innovative Tuning; 10-02-2012 at 11:34 AM. |

Keep pushing her!!!!!
What do you consider aggressive timing? Can you still add timing and pick up power or did you hit peak timing? |

I'm 3-4 degrees from peak power timing based on tuning I did on the built shortblock I had in the car earlier this year. I'm nowhere near the potential of the setup we have on the car, but the stock shortblock isn't going to take much more of this at the current power level.

Careful tuning only goes so far. There's a reason we upgrade engines. I'm not pushing it further on a road course. If it survives these days at the Glen I will see if I can run a 9 second pass at a drag strip as is and if not I'll add a little more boost.

Yea I'm not trying to hit the limit and make parts fly, but I'm definitely asking for trouble at this power level and I know it won't last.

I think if you didn't road course it and drove it daily but not like a bat out of hell it would last a while.

Yup it would definitely last a lot longer. Running it around a road course is just too much fun though.
