Just found out today I've got a rod knock, confirmed by Modesto Subaru. Estimate for a short block is $5200 installed from them. I still owe on it, so it's gotta go. Here are the details...
2005 WRX, 88,xxx miles, World Rally Blue with black interior, Invidia cat back exhaust, Go Fast Bits Respons bypass valve, Kart Boy short shifter with brushed knob, Alpine CD/MP3 with aux and USB jack on the front, flat black STI BBS rims, JDM pink front grill badge, tinted windows all the way around, headlight bezel mod (bezels painted with black BBQ paint) with all orange reflectors removed, body matched running boards, moon/sunroof (I'm not sure what the difference is), body is straight with a few little parking lot scratches on the passenger side rear door, interior is very clean except the floor mats are looking a little weathered, but no weird scratches anywhere inside, headliner and visors are clean. No other problems besides the motor.....If I can think of anything else I'll add it in, or feel free to ask questions. The car is located in Manteca, CA. It's worth about 14k, repairs will be in the ballpark of 5k worst case scenario, so I'm asking $9000 firm. No trades unfortunately because of the need to pay off the loan. I have to go back and pick the car up, so until then you'll have to use your imagination (I'm sure you've seen an 05 WRX in WRB), but I will post pics when I have it back.

You could purchase a 2.5L Long block from the Subaru dealership for about 2k. And do the labor yourself.
The price seems a little high to me.. |

no you couldnt. A 2.5l turbo SHORTblock is just under 2k and thats with a discount. Then you still need gasket kit, rebuilt heads, oil pump, water pump, timing parts, ect

Ha! Get a load of this...got a different dealer willing to pick it up for me from 60 miles away, pay off my loan, and get me into a 2010 STI certified with 27k miles for about $34k. Still hammering out the numbers on that, but sounds like a good deal so far.

This is officially off the market, but I'll leave it up for this bit of info....
I owed 7500 on my loan, they gave me 6900 at Modesto Subaru. I feel like I got a pretty fair deal. |
