Hey everybody, shirts are getting made this week. Let me know if you want one and what size. Also, its $15/shirt, or $17/shirt with the two tone like our decals.

Hey guys I'm visiting el paso right now and I need some help.

My 2002 wrx came with a turbosmart 50/50 BOV and the car is currently tuned to 18 psi and has a turbo inlet and CAI. The problem is that when I let off the gas or am at cruising speed the car some times make a " chirp" sound. It's not the BOV VTA but something else. It may be the BOV malfunctioning( older BOV). There is no boost leaks.
Anyway reason why I posted her is because I leave tomorrow to Dallas and need to see if some one can take a look at with me and give me some thoughts. And if anyone has a stock BPV I could buy from them. Pm me for more info or if you can help me take a look. Also looking for stock airbox.or short ram.

The only two things that "chirp" on our cars are BOVs or WGs. The tone may not be the same if it's just cracking open. Do you have a wideband? Was the the BOV purchased specific for the wrx or was it a universal/different vehicle. If not wrx specific the spring my be wrong causing it to not operate properly. How long have you had it and how long has the problem been happening? Answer all this and I might be able to help.

Thanks for the help.
I dont have a wideband. I purchased the car with the BOV installed but from what I can tell the BOV is for this model. I have had the car for about 2 years but like I said the previous owner installed it so who know how long it has been on the car.

I believe this BOV is older and have stopped making this model. I would say this problem has been happening about 5 months ago BUT it would make the chirp sound once a month. Within the past couple of days the chirp sound has picked up. I have driven to houston, midland and finally to el paso so With the amount of driving Ive done it makes sense that it would get worse.

I have cleaned the BOV and applied 3 in 1 oil to (like it says in the maintenance manual), Also I have tried adjusting the valve but even when it is at its most loose setting the car still will not stall. In other words, whether it is at its hardest setting or at its softest setting there does not seen to be any difference. I assume it is the wrong spring?

Thanks again.

that's what i would assume also. you should be able to call the manufacturer and they can tell you what spring you should have and if they still sale replacements.

My real advice would be to get a stock or other BPV and solve your problem outright (if that in fact is your problem). A 50/50 in my opinion is a ricers way to fit in while still staying true to their ricer roots. either go full BPV or set the car up properly to run a BOV (blow thru maf or SD tuning).

Haha I've found a saabaru on CL and I'm gonna buy the BPV from him. The car was tuned for the BOV installed. I'm sure installing the BPV instead will work. Then I'll research this BOV and check for a new spring. If I can get it to work ill sell it and have that money go to suspension. I have never really saw a point to BOV unless you're running more than 20psi. But I agree with the 50/50 being a bit of a waste. My wife does like the whoosh sound so I guess everyone has a little ricer in them. Lol

Don't let ppl lie to you. A BOV cannot be tuned for. It will **** you not matter how much a tuner charges you unless you are blow thru or SD.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 6th of July, we are having a cars & coffee meet at 0900 - 1200 @ Primo's Coffee Shop near George Dieter. Invite anybody to come out and have a good time meeting others. Afterwards, EPAWD will be cruising over to ArtCraft to have a staged rally event (just for fun of course). The route is already planned out and should be a lot of fun!!
