figured i put some of my pics up from the Daytona 24 hour i went to this year...i did NOT have media for this, but w the 300 2.8 you can shoot through the fence quite easily. that and i had a step stool to get over the 6ft high fence around the track. heres a few of my favs. If any of you haven't been before, i suggest going...OMG great time..24hrs of racing while theres prolly 72hours of straight partying! great time!

Day pics w the d300s and night pics w the d700.

Got lucky w this, car in front, is sideways...car in focus is going into the wall..i thought it was neat

Tried to get creative w this one.

Upshift flame...loveee race fuelllll!

midnight oops...guys hard at work

Those are awesome! I love the one with the exhaust flame and the rotor glow.

I was wondering if anyone had any input on panning. When I went to the track recently I found it very difficult to get the entire car in focus, either the front or back would be "soft". I'm assuming it mostly comes down to my technique but I just want to see what people could add.

This shot was not intentional but I kind of like it. 1/100

This one came out decent and on the sharp side. This was at 1/60

1/100

1/30- Not the sharpest but "passable"

1/60- rear of the car "soft"

If anyone has any tips or examples to add it would be great and helpful to me and I assume others. Thanks!

what i do is...open the app to f10ish or wider depending on weather conditions...i can change the how many focal points i have on the objects...i usually use the medium or 39 focus points of 51. watch for hte car through the view finder. follow it while holding the button down in continuous mode...and always follow through even after you stopped hitting hte button.

-try to also limit your movements up and down...gotta be smooth left to right.
-i also pic a spot on the car where i focus on...typically its the front of the car..but becasue im so wide it will pick up the rest of the car aswell

It seemed like it wasn't picking up the whole car. It would either get the back, middle, or front. I'm not sure if I have to change a setting or not on my camera, or if I was just too close to get it all in focus.

It was pouring out at this point.

Haven't shot much motorsports stuff lately, but here are some more of the product shots.

All are Canon 7D body and Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens.
Settings are 1/250sec, ISO640, f/16 (or similar).
Lighting is two Canon 580 EXII's in 45" umbrella's at 1/4 power.

INKMAN your shots look like they're also from Lime Rock.. I shot these a few months back with some buddies.

This was 1/100 at f10

It varied throughout the day between the clouds and full sunlight but these are 1/200 f10 for the most part with a 1/160 f5.6 at the end

A lot of people keep telling me that I need more variety in what I shoot so I decided to give my 3 year old nephew's new whip a proper photo.

Shot with my 85mm at f/1.8
