here's a video from that trail. https://vimeo.com/50613636

it is hard to tell in the videos whether i'm ascending or descending, for some reason. this one was going up and was a pretty steep climb.

Pretty sweet trail.

yea the younger one gets really scared and shakey sometimes and will try to crawl in my lap while im driving.

while im video-whoring.... i took a video on the way down Cumberland mountain in Tennessee. some good boxer and turbo noise.

this road had the craziest design i've driven in a long, long time. Much tighter setup than even Pikes Peak. there was barely 100-yards between deep 180-degree switchbacks. no guardrails but lots of trees and rock to slow you down if you go off. there was one corner that dropped like 20-ft - a la the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca

so the other day i put 04 fxt suspension on my 03 wrx and my 215/65 hankook snow tires..everything will fairly easy and didnt have any issues fitting the tires without adjustable trailing arms. The only problem i faced was some pretty bad positive camber in the front and rear. A buddy of mine said he had the same problem on his 02-03 and putting one camber bolt in at each strut was the solution...anyone else ever have this issue? Thanks!

I honestly can't decide.......

Looks better, but they hang a little low

So....Over or Under?

....because of my bar set-up I have to decide on one, because once everything is fully mounted, it's not easy to switch.

I'd say over. Or get more lights and make an over AND under setup. What kind of light beam are they though? Driving, spot or flood you want higher from what I've learned, fog you want lower.

They're fogs.

I just want to mount them for now, just to make sure they don't fall off, or rattle.

Wiring them up will be a whole other event. Since my car didn't come with factory fogs, I have to locate the "partial wiring" and all the fun stuff.

Then I'd suggest do low. Then mount some drivings lights on the topside.

i say leave them where they are. easier to aim when they're up, less likely to get shattered by rocks etc, and wont look like testicles on your chin =]

Yea, well I actually just built another light bar, that will allow me to mount the lights above or below.

I still think I want to mount above though. Better protection from rocks and stuff. Plus the new bar I made makes the lights sit a 1/2" lower.

Since I can mount either way, I'll probably end up switching back and forth, haha.

Finally got them mounted.

Painted the covers flat black. I'd like to make a different design, but the "hella" raised letters make that difficult.....

Damnit, nevermind, I still can't decide under or over. I like the under look more, but I feel like they could be too low that way.

I wish, that's Higgins, I just found the picture.

Definitely looks pretty good paint matched, at least on white. Still want that car, but, hey, that's the reason I'm dumping my WRX and picking up an '06 or '07 STi. Maybe even an '05....

I do wonder if the light pods are custom pieces or if some shop has started doing them.

Pretty sure they're custom.
'04-05s are my favourite, was never a fan of the pig nose.
You should sell me your bumper when you do.

Lol, you realize how much it'd cost to ship to Alaska?! Nah, I'm keeping it and ill try to modify it to work on the pig nose. That's my favorite. Bug eyes are cute, but no STis here, blob eyes aren't bad, they'd be my second choice.

I've got a hookup you'd only need to ship to WA. I kind of regret not just finding an older STi the second time around.

Still have to adjust them a lot. Just need to drive around and see if they rattle or move, then figure out how to wire them up.
You should make the bar they bolt to wider, put two Hella spot (free form) lamps in the middle, and your two driving lamps (the ones with fluted glass) on the outside on either side. Should give you a pretty good array of light up front. The spots in the middle will give you the down the road illumination and the driving lamps will fill out the side's.

Higher up is better, give you better beam dispersion. When their mounted low, they don't spread out real well.

Wire them into your high beams. That way you can turn them all on/all off with the high beam lever simultaneously. You can still run a independent switch though if you want to turn on highs without having the Aux lamps on. Subaru uses a switched ground, so you need a extra little relay box if you wanna tap the highs. I can link you to it if you want.

Their made by PIAA It's about $400 U.S. for each hood pod left/right and about $280 for each lower bumper pod, so about $1200 for the set. If you want HID your're looking at about $3k for just the hood pod.

You could probably get them from VSC if you wanted to get them new, or just scrounge the forums for someone selling spares.
